I found there to be very few on the DS/3DS/Wii U. I'm playing Metroid Prime Trilogy now :datass:

I can't believe that I put Metroid Prime in my list instead of Metroid Prime Trilogy which has the best control scheme. I'll change that now :toot:

There aren't many rules, but no compilations is one of them.

What the top 10 demonstrated to me is that story (or memorable character, at least) is a lot more important to a first-person shooter if it is considered to be be "great" than I had imagined.

Also EA am cry, with none of the Medal of Honour or Battlefield series even close to making the top 10.

Great job, Celer - it was ace to see so many GRcadians voting and even cooler to end up with a terrific roster of top titles. I had kinda thought that Call of Duty and Destiny would have made much more impact on this chart... I guess opinion is pretty much divided on them! I'm happy to see Doom (the original game, right?) do well as, over twenty years on, it stlll retains its smoothness and playability.

Good list though.

Yes, but Doom (2016) was very close to making the top 10, and only missed out due to a late flurry of votes for Modern Warfare and TimeSplitters 2.

It got four votes which ranked it joint 22nd (with Crysis, Quake 3 and Dishonored).

I was surprised that Halo 2, feted on its arrival, only got two votes in the whole process. Even ODST managed three nominations.

I'll never understand why Goldeneye consistently rates higher than Perfect Dark when PD is objectively a much better game. Must be the nostalgia factor.

Or you are Bond, James Bond.

The main character makes all the difference.

Portal was robbed

Thanks for reminding me that Timesplitters 2 isn't available on anything current :'(

But it's on the list so I'm happy, that's all that matters

Decent list. I'd put Perfect Dark above Goldeneye, personally.

I'm someone who preferred GE over PD.

From memory I think I enjoyed the levels more, the first 2 on Goldeneye are classics, the one in the snow, the one in the forest are also good, the last level are all good. I can't really remember many PD levels despite playing it more later on in life.

And while PD had some very good weapons, and the dual functions, it had some rubbish ones to. Human weapons & shooting people always > alien weapons & shooting aliens.

Think Halo CE deserves to be higher.

Bizarrely I was thinking about this at lunch for some reason, despite loving Halo 2 online the single player was such a disappointment that I think that's why it doesn't feature highly.

Good list, but there so many quality FPS titles a definite top ten is a lot harder to put together. As an example Unreal Tournament, Quake 1&2, System Shock, Stalker, Black are all worthy of high praise

Definitely shows a console bias, there's absolutely no way Timesplitters 2 is the 5th best FPS game ever made, but a lot of people hear clearly played it and so its on the list.

It is just the opinion of members of one gaming forum though. Some quality choices there nevertheless.
