Your complaints boil down to "it isn't like this other game I like", that's why I ignore them. Not worth wasting energy on.

Nah, The problem with R6 is that if you're losing, most of the time you're sitting there doing nothing, or looking at the cameras for 3+ minutes. That's what I find most frustrating, you can't learn from your mistakes, you die in an unlucky circumstance and that's that.

The meta game is non existent really. I get that the game is trying to be realistic but the low TTK really reduces the depth by a ton. Especially dying from one bullet from any gun to the head. There's no counterplay to that and it turns every gun fight into a quick draw. I mean if there was a way I could improve at the game beyond improving my aim I'd probably enjoy it more.

Where exactly do I compare it to another game?

I love how smug you are when you think you know what you're talking about. Do you level the same complaints at other 'one-kill and you're out' games? You admit to not being able to aim very well and then whine about dying too easily. What am I supposed to argue with, here? How is that the game's fault? You say there's nothing to do when you die, yet the post-death camera play is a huge part of the game.

Stu must be cheating, then. It's the only thing that explains how he's gotten so good and isn't constantly crying like a baby like you are. :simper:

I'll take any excuse I can to use a gif 8-)

What other games are there like this? Counterstrike? The only other one I've played is TLOU, but it takes a lot longer to die in that game, and it has the crafting and upgrading which adds more depth. There's a reason all of the stuff that can one hit kill you in the last of us are weapons you have to buy.

No, he's just a good shot :) I don't know why I can't aim in this game. I'm fine in most other games :?

Just saying, there's a reason it's not on anybody else's list. It's a very mechanically simple game. That isn't to say I don't enjoy it. But it's fun and frustrating in equal measure.

R6S isn't just being about the quickest on the draw (although it can be). It's very tactical and supposed to be played as a coordinated team. Half the game when defending is in your setup at the start, and as an attacker its all about flanking and coordinating your attacks to mitigate their defences.

Counterpicking is also possible, it just happens between rounds rather than during them. If they locked you out last round with a muted or electrified barricade then you know you want a thatcher/thermite combo, for example.

I've also been in plenty of firefights that don't end instantly, or that end with both sides still alive. You definitely don't always die in a single shot, and even if you get downed with a good team (or even singular teammate) you can get revived.

Even if you die, using the cameras is a useful thing to do for your team, especially if you're on voice chat.

It was on my list anyway! I've been playing it alongside Overwatch since Overwatch's release and I definitely prefer R6S.

Thanks for the votes chaps. They have been important because they have shaken up the top 10.

As much as I like the idea of these top 10 lists I can't help but thinking a full month is maybe a little too long to wait between genres.

Couldn't we have a staggered system where each thread still lasts a month but we start a new genre every fortnight?

Yes, good idea.

I was trying to find the balance between giving people plenty of time to nominate, and not making it look like I am spamming the front page. But a staggered approach is a great way around this.

My Top 10, in no particular order.

- No One Lives Forever (PC, 2000)
- No One Lives Forever 2 (PC, 2002)
- Unreal Tournament '99 (PC, 1999)
- Goldeneye 007 (N64, 1997)
- Halo : CE (Xbox, 2001)
- Bioshock (PC, 2007)
- Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (PC, 2007)
- Wolfenstein: The New Order (PC, 2014)
- Bioshock Infinite (PC, 2013)
- Half-Life 2 (PC, 2004)

Was tempted to include Dishonored, Portal 1/2 and Jedi Knight but given the way I played them it'd have been a push for me to include them as FPS games. Fantastic first person games though.

I found there to be very few on the DS/3DS/Wii U. I'm playing Metroid Prime Trilogy now :datass:

I don't have the time - I already only play these games when its in multiplayer with friends. Even that is too much, my backlog is still growing.

I think Overwatch just about beats Rainbow 6 Siege simply cos of the variety of characters and strategies on offer. It's also blessed with Bags of charm.

I tend to prefer round-based no respawning shooters (they increase the jeopardy and force people into playing tactically), and I also enjoy the more dynamic approach of destructible environments. Overwatch does win out on aesthetics but they are very different games, so I think it comes down to personal choice on what kind of game you prefer playing.

Here's my list, I've avoided putting in more "cross-genre" games like Deus Ex, Dishonored, or SS2 even though these would outrank most of the below in terms of my favourite first person games:

  • Doom (1993)
  • Doom 2
  • Half-Life
  • Half-Life 2
  • Serious Sam: First Encounter
  • Return To Castle Wolfenstein
  • Far Cry
  • GoldenEye 007
  • Halo Combat Evolved
  • Unreal Tournament

I can't believe that I put Metroid Prime in my list instead of Metroid Prime Trilogy which has the best control scheme. I'll change that now :toot:
