I bought it on PS3 launch day, the next day I was playing an online FPS for the very first time. I liked the quirky British sci-fi story and setting and the game itself was grand. I collected all the tapes(?) and the back story was cool. A nice cliff-hanger ending and everything was set for a sequel. Such a shame they panicked and rebooted the series with the generic dog-turd that was Resistance 2. Oh well.

Agreed! The British sci-fi setting is wonderful - you can't beat fighting through the war-torn streets of Manchester, and the game does a really good job of making the war being fought feel real. I love the game for its local co-op especially though, I think that's where it really shines.

The next best Resistance game is Retribution on the PSP, which is basically Resistance: FOM x Syphon Filter, but that's a TPS not an FPS. It helps greatly that the setting is still European.

Metroid prime is a first person adventure platformer. The principle focus of the game is not shooting, it is at least 30% platforming and 30% puzzle solving / collecting.

Portal is a first person puzzle game. There is no focusing on shooting enemies, only their surroundings in some cases.

I am just saying this to be that guy, and because twitter told me too.

I predict Metroid Prime will make the top 10 of the list of first-person shooters and the top 10 adventure games.

There has been a record 337 votes this month for 102 games in total. Still time to get your nominations in if you haven't already.

Isn't battlefront 3rd person? Or is it like the new one where you can switch views?

Another vote for Portal and that has made me think. Is it a FPS? I'm not saying it isn't but, when I compiled my list, I didn't think of it as one. If it is, then Portal and Portal 2 would top my list.

It's a tricky decision and, I guess, one that's down to individual choice. For me, I think I'll leave my list as it is.

I'd agree that it isn't, especially as it doesn't have weapon-based combat which is mentioned in the OP, but I included it as others already have.

Half Life 2
BioShock
Doom
Call of Duty 2
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Halo 3
Overwatch
Left 4 Dead
Counter Strike: Go
Timesplitters 2

Goldeneye misses out as it hasn't aged well. Portal 2 and Alien Isolation aren't first person shooters. Genres :x

TimeSplitters 2
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Half-Life 2: Episode Two (or just HL2 as a whole if we're grouping the thing up)
Battlefield: Bad Company 2
Halo 3: ODST
Deus Ex
Metro: Last Light
F.E.A.R.
Wolfenstein: The New Order
BioShock

That's probably it. This thread has made me realise how few of the great FPS games I've actually played.

The problem with that is what genre do you actually end up putting those games in?

There probably won't be a First Person Adventure category to vote for Metroid Prime in (let alone the addition on platformer) and its entirely possible that the Adventure category will be a 3rd Person Adventure category.

As for Portal, I guess it could be voted for in the a Puzzle category, but despite calling it a First Person Puzzle game, I'd say from a mechanics stand point it probably has more in common with FPS games than most Puzzle games, just because you aren't shooting bullets and killing people, doesn't mean you aren't shooting, the majority of the time you point and shoot portals to solve the puzzles, technically it could definitely be classed as a FPS Puzzle game.

I'd live to hear Chalky explain why he actually thinks it's so good. Every time I moan about it and poke holes in the gameplay he ignores me

I guess I'll do mine anyway

Bioshock
Half Life 2 saga
Overwatch
Call of Duty 4
The Darkness
The Darkness 2
Halo
Destiny (I guess, because of the raids)
Crysis 2
Time Splitters 2

Your complaints boil down to "it isn't like this other game I like", that's why I ignore them. Not worth wasting energy on.
