They came in boxes that said Game Boy Color, that's as close to being a color game as you can reasonably get

I didn't realise that about the box. I just know the cart says Gameboy and not gameboy colour.

Had to look this up because I'm always confused. I believe the cartridge looks like a GB cartridge because it is backwards compatible: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_Boy_Color#Cartridges

Am I right in thinking that:

Grey cartridges were original GB (so black and white on the GBC)
Black cartridges were colour (so black and white on the original GB)
Clear cartridges ONLY worked on the GBC

And for this particular vote it's only black and clear cartridges that count?

That’s all pretty much spot-on, Dan. Worth noting that the GBC could play original GB games in colour, though - a selection of pre-defined colour templates could be chosen by the user.

I haven’t played on my GBC for ages... this is tempting me to dig it out!

Same here. How much do you want to bet that one of us has left the batteries in?

I hope not, rinks! :o . I must confess that I have a few GBCs; my original one (blue) plus three others (another blue together with two yellow ones) that I picked up cheap about ten years ago when they were unfashionable. I have managed to keep them in their original boxes.

These are the only GBC games I've ever played and only one of which I've actually owned.

Wario Land II (owned, only played on classic GB)
Tetris DX (emulator)
Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons (emulator)

I'll count Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages as two separate games, as they're different, but Pokemon Gold/Silver as one entry.

• Tetris DX
• The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX
• The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons
• The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages
• Driver
• Mario Golf
• Mario Tennis
• Pokemon Gold/Silver
• Shantae
• Perfect Dark

Plus one for me, great game, definitely put the most of my GBC hours into it. It’s the only exclusive GBC I remember playing, except for WWF betrayal which was god awful. All other titles I enjoyed were ports, like Zelda DX, Mario Deluxe, Street Fighter Alpha and Donkey Kong country. Oh Forgot about Conkers pocket tails, I got it after I played bad fur day so I was a little disappointed in its cutesyness, I’m sure it was good though seeing it was Rare in their glory days.

Pokémon Crystal
Super Mario Bros DX
Tetris DX
Links Awakening DX
Oracle of Ages
Oracle of Seasons
Cannon Fodder (They worked miracles with this game which had FMV sequences in it).
Metal Gear Solid

They were the only ones I had/have played.

Great stuff, Celer! I always enjoy seeing what people vote for in GRecommends... even though I may not necessarily be ecstatic about the outcome :) .

More folk need the opportunity to play O’Leary Manager 2000. Terrific on the pitch and cool on the management.

The right game came out too there. Links Awakening =

Looking at this list it's interesting that the GameBoy got one of the best 2D Zelda games (plus some great follow up Zelda's in the Oracle games) yet Nintendo's other major franchises (Mario in particular) never made the transition to the portable quite so well.

Links awakening would be my number 1 so good to see it come out on top.
