Oh, tough console to get a list on - according to the linked wikipedia page there are over 2500 games to choose from!

My list:

Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy IX
Metal Gear Solid
Resident Evil 2
Castlevania SOTN
Gran Turismo
Tomb Raider
Wipeout 2097
Tenchu
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver

So hard to get it down to 10, lots of great games I wanted to include - Die Hard Trilogy, Time Crisis, Tekken 2... Why does it have to be 10?! :)

A console I never owned so my experience was very limited at the time, and most of what I've played has been on PSP/Vita/PS3.

Metal Gear Solid
Crash Team Racing
Rayman 2: The Great Escape
Klonoa: Door to Phantomile
Vib Ribbon
Spyro the Dragon
Spyro 2: Gateway to Glimmer
Spyro: Year of the Dragon

There's still time to get your top 10 in this week if you haven't voted yet.

Christ that's a mammoth task. Um, off the top of my head:

1. Doom
2. Tekken 2
3. Resident Evil
4. Final Fantasy VIII
5. Gran Turismo
6. LoK: Soul Reaver
7. Silent Hill
8. Soul Blade
9. Loaded
10. Pandemonium

There are so many great PSone games, far more than 10, but thems the rules.

Smackdown 2
Crash Bandicoot
Crash Bandicoot 2
Crash Bandicoot 3
Abes Oddysee
Abes Exodus
Metal Gear Solid
Demo discs
Chipped consoles
Actual advertising

The latter three were the jewel in the PlayStation's crown. Without them, they'd have lost the otherwise overwhelmingly one-sided fight with the N64. In terms of software the PS just doesn't cut it at all. It has some good games but barely any have aged to the point that they could still be considered great.

I'd say there's a pretty good argument for that when you consider the sheer breadth, depth and quality of games that were released for the platform.

Resident Evil 2
Destruction Derby
Broken Sword 2
Crash Bandicoot 3
Metal Gear Solid
Tekken 3
WWF SmackDown 2
Colin McRae Rally 2.0
Gran Turismo
Spyro The Dragon 2

So difficult to narrow this down to just ten; it would quite happily change every time you asked me. Never played a console as much before or since, or been as familiar with its games, and probably never will again. Just right place, right time.

You could swap out McRae Rally 2.0 for V-Rally 2, Resident Evil 2 for 3, Metal Gear Solid for Silent Hill, Tekken 3 for 2...where the hell is Wipeout, or Time Crisis, or TOCA, or Theme Hospital, or Die Hard, or Tomb Raider, or Tony Hawks...etc, etc.

"Just right place, right time."

And that, more than anything else, is why the PSone was so successful.

Damn, what a console it was though.

Got my Playstation out of storage a few weeks ago - love the design of it.

In no real order:

Gran Turismo
Final Fantasy VII
Resident Evil
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2
Tekken 3
Smackdown 2
Harvest Moon: Back to Nature
FIFA Road to the World Cup '98
Future Cop LAPD

So many missed off that list though, and so many that I never got to play that may well have made the list if I had. The Playstation/N64 era was incredible.

I think the PSone is also the only streamlining or rebooting of a console Sony has ever made that looked equally as good, if not more so, than the original. Nothing felt downgraded (and in terms of the menu system, they actually spruced it up a bit). Whereas you look at the PS3 and PS4 and both have got progressively worse. I thought the PS2 Slim also looked worse, but at least you got the addition of an in-built ethernet.

Top-loading PS3 is the best looking model imo, and while the OG PS4 is definitely the best the first slight redesign with actual power buttons is better than the dodgy touch-sensitive buttons - although that hardly changes the aesthetics.

There's not much between the PSP 1000/2000/3000 either

I liked the slim versions of the the PS, the PS2 and the recent PS4. The original slim version of the PS3 was lovely but I felt that the later slim model was atrocious.

Crumbs! Aesthetics truly are in the eye of the beholder.

Top-loading tray > pop-out tray > motorised disc slot

The maths is simple

I probably prefer the hinged top loading design (e.g. dreamcast) to the sliding super slim PS3 design, but sliding is still fun and cool

  • Soul Blade
  • Tekken 3
  • Rage Racer
  • Driver
  • Gran Turismo
  • Rollcage
