My guide is always what is the primary focus of the game in question?

While there are puzzles in Resident Evil, I think the main focus of the game is adventuring, so I would classify it as an adventure game.

Does Resident Evil count then?

Dunno never played it, I always thought that was a shooter type game.

They are not puzzle games.

Resident Evil is gooseberry fool, played 3 for about 20 minutes but the hideous controls and cheap jump scares put me right off.

I have a copy of Drill Land but it was very difficult to actually play it. Perhaps it would have been a different story if it'd ever been released in English.

I'm curious how language barriers can stop you enjoying a game like Mr Driller.

It was a little difficult to navigate the menus and Drill Land I think actually had progression and quite a lot of modes.

I've also got a feeling that it was either difficult or impossible to actually save progress when playing using Freeloader. There was definitely some issue with it.

Hmm fair point HSH!

Anyway here's my top 10 (if I can remember 10 puzzle games I enjoy!)

1) Portal (360)
2) Tetris (GB)
3) Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine (Mega Drive)
4) Picross (DS)
5) Portal 2 (360)
6) Hexic HD (360)
7) Professor Layton and the Curious Village (DS)
8) Dizzy Treasure Island (C64)
9) Zoo Keeper (DS)
10) Cut the Rope (ios)

You can really say how many puzzle games I've played lol.

Not sure about Phoenix Wright games though...

I've seen Polarium in several peoples lists and I don't really understand why it gets so much praise, I don't know whether it was simply the touchscreen controls or the fairly harsh time limit but I just couldn't get along with it at all.

Terrific work, Celer! I'm well pleased to see that the Portal titles gained so much recognition... they're two of my favourite games. Professor Layton deserved an appearance, too, as that series was ace.

Not sure Layton really deserves a spot in the top 10, but its not a bad list overall.

No Talos or Swapper even in the "bubbling under" and I realise why I never vote in anything on this forum.

Y'all have no idea what's out there.

Neither of those games are as good as something as niche as SpaceChem, which did make the bubbling under section though. I don't think they didn't make it because people have never heard of them, they just aren't good enough.

In fairness, all those games bubbling under were tied on three votes and Talos received two so it didn't exactly miss out by much.
