This is wrong too.

It clearly is an FPS, you play in first person and you shoot portals. First Person Shooter. It's in the name.

This doesn't stop it being a Puzzle game as well as an FPS.

I don't know about Battlefield, but the other four you've mentioned all contain campaign modes in which the player has to complete specific objectives in order to move on to the next level. These objectives frequently involve puzzle solving (as opposed to the objectives that are of the "kill X number of enemies/clear the area to progress").

To use a famous example from one of the series you've mentioned, The Silent Cartographer from the original Halo. You have to locate and deactivate the security system as well as survive. There's navigation of an environment, and working out the required sequence and appropriate location, involved as well as just brute force shooting. To use another famous FPS example that I can think of - Goldeneye on the N64 contained plenty of puzzles, usually locating and destroying or installing items.

Not sure if you are assuming people only play the multiplayer versions of FPS games, wherein I assume tactics and strategy are more prominent, but it's not the only available way of playing ;-)

Portal 2 is more of a hidden object (ie. the one portal-compatible surface in the room) game than a puzzle game.

Sorry but pressing a button is not a puzzle.

Puzzle Series Vol. 5: Slitherlink - DS (I fully expect I shall be the only person to vote for this, which is ridiculous as it's amazing and as addictive as crack)
Picross - DS
Lumines - PSP
Professor Layton and The Curious Village - DS
Phoenix Wright (The second one). - DS

This one is definitely going on the list.

On Advance Wars, I don't agree. It may have multiple solutions but the layout of each mission strongly resembles a puzzle. I also don't remember the ai being particularly adaptive. But if that's the ruling then so be it. What about Pixeljunk Monsters?

Pixel Junk Monsters is a tower defense game, which is a Strategy subgenre.

There's optimal solutions for each map but there's no single correct way of beating them.

Same can be said of many puzzle games to be fair
Tetris doesn't have a single correct way of beating it

There is no ruling. If you want to vote for it in this category, do so. The definition is up to you.

Of all the games people have suggested, I'm surprised no-one has tried to shoehorn in Point and Click adventures yet.

That has reminded me about Hotel Dusk though. In it goes.

I did vote for Myst, but I don't think it's shoehorned in considering the puzzles in it.

Yeah I saw Myst. It's really the closest thing to a Point and click anyone has suggested. But even then I'd say it's more a puzzle game than a P&C.

So important you had to say it twice.

Although if you vote for something that isn't part of the genre you are voting for, then its unlikely other people will vote for it either and so that vote is basically wasted.

And it doesn't really matter what Rex Kramer thinks, its not a matter of opinion. Advance Wars and Pixeljunk Monsters aren't puzzle games. They just aren't.

Its not a Point and Click game either.

I believe its a Puzzle Adventure Game and hence it makes sense to include it in the Puzzle game genre.

Other than the very obvious one, I am going to struggle with this category.

1. Tetris
2. Hexic
3. Portal
4. Portal 2
5. Advance Wars
6. Chips Challenge

I don't really think Portal or Advance Wars count as a puzzle games and can't remember if Chips Challenge was any good but that will have to do.

Sure portal counts, you have to workout how to get to the finish point using the portals, thats a puzzle.

Dunno never played it, I always thought that was a shooter type game.
