 . It was a tough decision, Ironhide. I liked the slightly expanded Ridge Racer Revolution and I also enjoyed Rage Racer (RR 3). Due to the initial impact (I've got an arcade machine in my home! And what the hell is that music?!?) I settled on the original.

Rage Racer was superb, the music was utterly horrific though.

I didn't like how certain cars were manual transmission only either as I simply can't deal with changing gears in racing games (mainly because there's no obvious audible 'cues' or engine vibration to indicate when to change gear that you get from real cars and also because I don't drive).

Type 4 was the pinnacle of RR games for me however, none of the later ones came close to it, loved the light RPG/ visual novel bits in the career mode, dat soundtrack :datass:

Its probably not going to be an issue, but you might want to clarify which Sega Rally you are talking about there.

1. Super Mario Kart SNES
2. Motorstorm 1 PS3
3. Diddy Kong Racing N64
4. Project Gotham Racing 3 Xbox 360
5. Mario Kart 8 Wii U
6. Wave Race N64
7. Forza Horizon Xbox 1
8. Metropolis Street Racer Dreamcast
9. F355 Challenge Dreamcast
10. Motorstorm Pacific Rift PS3

Mario Kart SNES, to me, is the perfect game. Every track is amazing, and the handling is so tight, you can put the kart on the exact part of the track you want - no other racing game has made me feel so in control of my kart!

Motor storm just made me go "wow" when I first played it. It's just so chaotic and cool and looks incredible.

Yes it was good, but Wave Race was in a totally different league and even better...

MK64 > Excitebike > F-Zero X > DKR > 1080 Snowboarding > Wave Race

Goddamn, Nintendo put out some amazing and varied racing games back then. Now it's just Mario Kart over and over again. :fp:

What was that racer that used a chip in its cartridge cos of it's 3D ness, it had eyes in 2D on the cars. I loved that.

EDIT: I remembered, it was STUNT RACE FX.

That was really fun at the time but, even by standards back then, it ran really poorly. Nowdays it feels almost unplayable. Great character and track ideas, though - I'd like to see a modern update!

It ran like a dog but I loved it all the same. Some great tunes. Would be great to see a remaster.
