Let us know what you think of the dodgy texture :slol:.

Trust me, you get used to it and might even come to enjoy it! See if you can get the water/milk balance correct (if you want to add milk at all, that is) to enhance the flavour while avoiding mixing issues.

ITSMILNER wrote:Is Huel a better meal replacement for post gym workouts than a Protein powder?

I've been wondering this for a while and I think for me personally it is. I used to find with protein shakes they would go straight through me and I'd end up sat on the toilet 6+ times a day, but this hasn't happened with Huel. I can't help but assume it must be better to chug protein alongside carbs and amino acids, rather than on its own, right?

Loving the huel so far! Got the caramel one to blend properly now, is actually quite tasty and so strawberry floating convenient. Really handy.

Finally got round to buying my first batch, and I went with salted caramel after your comments. I could honestly mistake it for a caramel milkshake  (okay, maybe if I was drunk). How the strawberry float can this be so healthy?!

Feel like these Huel scientists have created a tasty, cheap, healthy substance that can provide convenient full nutrition to anyone, but instead of being treated as revolutionaries, the whole thing is ridiculed :slol:.

Eurgh, got through about five minutes of that. Turned it off when he said people shouldn't use time convenience as a positive thing because they "have enough time to bash a wank out in the toilet".

The only part about Huel he addressed was that on its own it doesn't give you enough protein to build muscle unless you drink an excessive amount of it. This is true, and it would also be entirely true for a 'normal' diet (i.e. a sedentary person eating enough normal food to maintain their weight without building muscle). Everyone on the planet knows you have to consume an excess of protein (and carbs) to build muscle mass via weight training, beyond the very initial beginner phase.

The rest of what I saw appeared to be largely based on a personal dislike of food being liquid, or 'woke' because it's not derived from animals.

It's, err, useful/interesting to hear alternative points of view – but no subscription on this occasion!

Going to get back on the protein scene I think as I've realised I'm probably not getting enough since trying to switch to more veggie/vegan dinners in the week. I'm assuming the myprotein impact whey hasn't changed much in the last few years?

Has anyone had these protein flapjacks before? https://www.myprotein.com/sports-nutrit ... 7245.html#

I currently get the trek ones but these are double the protein so could be worth switching.

Got some and myprotein are having a 45% off sale for early black Friday/cyber Monday if that's useful to anyone! Saved myself nearly £20

Does anybody have any experience with sourcing decent flooring for a home gym? There seems to be a reasonable amount of choice out there, but it all seems much of a muchness, and there aren't many places to go and check out these things in person. I'm not looking for anything super high quality, just some basic mats that we can do yoga on (or put a yoga mat on) and to protect our floor from some benches and other bits of equipment.

Pretty happy with how this year went. I started the year off at 92.5kg and very much overweight on the BMI scale and by October/November time had got down to 74.5kg. Now, after the festive period I've definitely put a few kg back on which I'm hoping will come off back off quickly this month (especially as I'm doing dry January) but I've definitely started the year in a much better place than last!

Here's me on holiday in 2022 (where I didn't even want to take my vest off due to my beer gut) v holiday in 2023:

Image

So, now I'm keen to push on. In 2023 for the first 3 months I focused mainly on running with the odd weightlifting session but as the year went on and I shifted the fat, I got more and more into the weightlifting, doing 4x sessions a week with 1 cardio session (6aside once a week). And its weightlifting i want to continue to focus on. All the weightlifting has been at home where I've got adjustable dumbbells (up to 25kg) and a bench. That's worked for me so far but obviously has limitations in what exercises I can do. I'm thinking of joining a puregym that's next to my office with the idea that the 3 days a week I go, I can finish the day with an hour in the gym before heading home. And then I can do a fourth session at home with the dumbbells on the weekend.

I'm also thinking about mixing up my programming. I've split my 4 sessions at home into:
Chest/Biceps
Shoulders/Triceps
Back
Legs
With some ab workout thrown in at the end of 1 or 2 sessions each week.

What I'm thinking about doing instead is 3 sessions a week with 6 excercises-3 pull, 3 push, going from 1 to the other. And then a 4th session for legs. I haven't worked out the exercises yet but I'm going to the gym this Thursday to get a feel for it and will go from there. What are people's thoughts on this? It's basically driven from a desire to work some muscle groups more each week rather than once (chest :shifty: )

Fantastic results Tomous :toot:

Went back to the gym this morning, got there at 8am and it was me and 2 other people in the whole place  expecting it to get super busy from tomorrow though :dread:

That's amazing progress, especially considering the limitations of equipment you're using. Really well done.

I've become obsessed with boxing lately. Getting in the flow and testing yourself against another is beautiful; the ebb and flow and millions of possibilities from every angle are so addictive to me. Makes me really appreciate how incredible even low level pros are too.

With unfortunately the massive downside of anxiety around brain damage.

Great stuff Tomous!

I'm currently trying to work out how to fit in exercise and a newborn :slol:

I've done a couple of runs and got a kettlebell at home so that's a lot easier than going to the gym at the moment. But longer term still want to go to the gym 3x a week, just need to work out (no pun intended) when/how, especially once my paternity leave finishes this week.

Thinking of going back to more of a SS routine so I always hit the compound moves instead of the push/pull/legs routine I've been doing most recently. So easier if I miss a session or cam only do 1 gym trip on one week or something.

Cheers lads

Have done 3 sessions at the gym now and absolutely loving the wealth of options available. Still fine tuning a routine, almost too much choice now!

One thing I've realised with free weights is they really do hammer your wrists. Already feeling the benefit from moving some excercises over to an alternative on say, the cable machine.

Mr Ous, I do declare :o. You sex bomb. Nailed it!

I'm hovering just under 73kg at the moment. Going to make a push for 76-or-so over the next couple of months, then aim for a summer cut.

Can't bench press at the moment due to a persistent shoulder problem, but I've found that overhead press doesn't tweak it, so looking to make progress there instead. The issue with that is it knackers my lower back and even my neck :fp: urgh... getting so old.

1 of my current goals since returning to the gym is to bench my bodyweight. I'm around 77kg at the moment so calling the target 80kg.

Managed 3 sets of 6 reps at 70kg today for the first time so making progress towards it.

I think the bench press may be my favourite excercise. It's just so pure and simple :datass:
