Trust me, you get used to it and might even come to enjoy it! See if you can get the water/milk balance correct (if you want to add milk at all, that is) to enhance the flavour while avoiding mixing issues.

I've been wondering this for a while and I think for me personally it is. I used to find with protein shakes they would go straight through me and I'd end up sat on the toilet 6+ times a day, but this hasn't happened with Huel. I can't help but assume it must be better to chug protein alongside carbs and amino acids, rather than on its own, right?

Loving the huel so far! Got the caramel one to blend properly now, is actually quite tasty and so strawberry floating convenient. Really handy.

I guess it's time to start the GRcade Hungry Huel Club 8-).

Did you say you had a referral code for Huel?

Nope, I don't actually have my own account with them yet. I will create one when I run out of my current stock, and I'll remember to check for a referral code here (so you and Roc can fight for whose code I use ).

Gotcha  might have a quick look online to see if I can find one haha

You all have one shake a day? Was thinking of doing that as 2 bags would last about a month then.

EDIT: Order Huel Black Edition, my partner said she’ll use it as well and she needed the gluten free option so went for black. Got Choc and Vanilla and then a free pack of Salted Caramel as well.

Nice 8-).

I've had more than one in a single day before, but to be honest I consider it as a personal failure of organisation when that happens.

Within a 24-hour period:

Ideal = extra meal
Acceptable = partial meal replacement
Last resort = full meal replacement
Failing at life = multiple meals replacement

But that's just me! No judgment on whatever works for anyone else.

Hah that's the exact same as me.

Tried choc and salted caramel now, the latter is defo tastier. Choc is a bit watery.

First morning back to the gym since pre covid, I can't wait to feel all my muscles in pain on Wednesday! Can't believe how much I had to drop the weights by! going to take a lot to get anywhere near what I used to lift.

Damn, that's a long time out! Hopefully it comes back quickly for you, the muscle memory of the lifts if nothing else.

Luckily i'm not planning on doing what I used to, im 45 now and want to use the gym to aid my running rather than build muscle.

This is a topic I never really dreamed id post in.... I have been on a bit of a fitness journey these last 7 weeks... I started out at 19Stone 1pound. After 7 Weeks of dieting and doing sit ups and other bits and pieces I weighed in at 16Stone 4pounds on Friday just gone... For the past 52 days I have ate 1000 to 1300 Calories a day and not broke this even once. Wednesday I am going out to the pub for the mother in laws birthday and I am going to break it for one day and have a meal with everyone.

I kept telling myself id break it and have a treat day for myself once I could do 50 Sit ups in 2 Minutes because I had read somewhere that was a good healthy thing to be able to do.. After lots of practice the best I have ever done is 50 in 2 minutes and 12 seconds and usually im closer to 50 in 2 minutes and 30 seconds, have I set myself too high a goal? Its been my goal from day 1 and I could bearly do 10 at first now I can do 50 but just cant really lower the time.

I think the amount is more impressive rather than the time.

Work towards a 100, your body soon adapts to what you do so stress it different ways so you keep improving.

Benched 110kg for a surprisingly easy 3 reps a few days ago. :toot:

I haven't benched that heavy since well before Covid, as I'm generally not keen on going super heavy without a spotter but felt 3x5 100kg bench flew up so decided to risk it. Had intended to do just 1 rep too but it felt easier than expected so added in a further 2.

Nice!

I'm trying to focus a little more on fighting just now. Got a nice right cross down but still not happy with speed of my jab.

Over the next month I'm traveling between scotland, Poland and Vietnam so fitness will have to take a back seat unfortunately. Should give time for all my niggles to heal up though.

Impressive benching GD!

I injured (I suspect) my rotator cuff a few weeks ago so today was the first time doing chest in the gym for a while. Could still feel it a bit so took it very easy, but hope it sorts itself soon as it is quite frustrating.

In the meantime I've done more running and more legs, including sledge push/pulls, good grief they work up a sweat! Don't even think I'm doing that much in terms of weight either

Nice going. 110kg bench is completely out of reach for me. There is a brick wall somewhere around 92.5kg that I'm too old to face up to now!

I spotted for a guy doing 125kg for 5x5 this morning. Weirdly, though, my deadlift is stronger than his! He's ~25kg heavier than me. He did say he'd only started properly programming his deadlift about a month ago :slol: but I'll take it for now.

Has anyone trained predominantly with Dumbbells?

The time I go to the gym it’s sometimes hard to get a rack so I’ve taken to just grabbing some dumbbells and doing a workout with those. Chest, back, arms the lot, only other stuff I do is body stuff like pull ups and push ups.

Yeah, I only use dumbbells because I don't go to the gym, I just workout at home.

The conveniance has been really handy but I'm kinda hitting a ceiling on a few of them now because of weight limitations-I have adjustable dumbbells that can go up to 25kg each. Also have a barbell that I can get up to 50kg.

I'd like to look at some ways of expanding my options at home, I know you can get pull up bars for doorways and things like that but I haven't really looked into it properly.

Evening all.

Haven't ventured in here for a while. Popping a post in here that I hope I can come back to in a few months time to make myself feel better after a lot more rehab  . On the 2nd August, I cleverly fell off a 2.5-3m wall in Australia and landed on concrete on my shoulder and, a fraction later, the side of my head. Managed to sever all my acromioclavicular joint ligaments, displaced my clavicle into the wrong place, and give myself a concussion. Was quite lucky to get away as lightly as I did as I was rather scarily close to either a TBI or SCI if my angle of landing had been slightly different or if it had been head the shoulder, rather than the other way round.

Anyway, tldr - ended up in fairly emergency surgery the next day having holes drilled through my clavicle and acromion, some titanium put in and some synthetic ligaments attached to hold the bones together. I also now have a rather large scar across my shoulder and some fairly unpleasant and persistent post-concussion syndrome symptoms.

Anyways - after six weeks of absolutely zero movement allowed in a sling, I'm now a few weeks into fairly difficult physio while I learn to move my arm again - and today managed to dumbbell-bench-press a total of 1kg as my 1RM.

Thankfully, I can now get on a bike indoors again and have managed to lose ~5kg in fairly quick time to lose a decent chunk of the sedentary-recovery-puppy-fat.

No real response needed to any of the above - just fancied a quick moan and I do hope to come back to this message when I'm able to do more - to note my progress.

Cheers.

In terms of strength training, what set x rep range is most beneficial? 4x6 or a 5x5 perhaps?

Mini E :dread: eesh. Good luck on your road to recovery.

ITSMILNER wrote:In terms of strength training, what set x rep range is most beneficial? 4x6 or a 5x5 perhaps?

Conventional wisdom always seems to land on five reps for between three-five sets. But more modern methods are focusing on pyramid sets, with more frequent deloading and one-rep-maxing.

I'd suggest going with what works for you, for the time being. If you're steadily increasing the weight, maintaining strict form, and not suffering injuries, then it means whatever you're doing is absolutely fine. When you get to the point you can't keep increasing the weight, then you'll want to look into new methods (or you might just be happy maintaining at that level, which is also fine and possibly sensible given that we're all turning into old men!).
