This will be playable at ComiCon in London this weekend, I'll be sure to give it a go and report back.

This is out on Friday, looking forward to it. Turns out my cheap order from cdkeys.com has been upgraded to the Black Edition (which comes with white bonus liveries, ironically) for free. Been playing some older racing games, so will be nice to play something that looks good for a change. The car list seems fairly spread out, with a few missing cars that I hope get added at some point - Z4 GT3 mainly.

Probably not, I get the feeling this isn't going to be a big, "AAA" release, but a demo would be pretty easy to make. Just give a couple of races from different disciplines and that'll do, no need to develop anything new per se.

I have this on preorder via Steam. Hoping it's going to be mildly enjoyable at least. Annoyed it's not a PS4 release, though. I could really do with at least one good driving sim on the damn thing. :|

You can get the game for £16.99 from SimplyCDKeys for that kind of price its surely worth a go even if it isn't amazing.

I think it might surprise some though, Codemasters are good at making good racing games no matter what anyone saying about handling models.

Codemasters are back with this game

It's TOCA in everything but name, the racing and handling (with a wheel) are fantastic.

Dat Bathurst :datass: really looking forward to this now, will have to try it with a wheel as well, no more plebbing it up with a pad just because it's convenient.

One of the outgoing generation's best racers and the kind of game that makes you wish for a new-gen port.

For the first time in years, Grid Autosport feels like a Codemasters racing game built to appeal to long-time Codemasters racing fans. Grid Autosport promised proper motor racing, and that’s exactly what it delivers (and plenty of it, to boot). It falls a bit short in the visual stakes compared to the hotter, new generation completion, but few developers get pack racing right like Grid Autosport does. The spirit of the classic TOCA games is finally back.

At the very least, maybe it’ll finally teach the rest of the world what a ute is.

Strong, frequently brilliant fun, but it's still only GRID 2.5. There's variety compared to its predecessor, but it never escapes the feeling that it's just a stopgap for whatever's coming next.

Grid Autosport is a fine racing game, though it's never a thoroughbred one. It's the muscle car that was Grid 2 stripped out and retooled for the track, but too often you can see the solder-work at the seams. In 2008, Race Driver: Grid was a partial reinvention of the racing genre, equipped with a handful of fresh ideas. Six years on, Grid Autosport - while a definite return to form for Codemasters - is simply a rediscovery of it.

Looking good, then I read something in the IGN review that made me double-take and re-read it to make sure I got it right:

Endurance is Autosport’s most confusing category. They look the part, but the default length of these races is just eight minutes. It’s strange because tyre wear, which is only a factor in the Endurance category, is scaled to the length of the race. You can bring a little logic to the tyre wear issue by manually increasing the length of your endurance races but that only serves to highlight Autosport’s most egregious sin: no pit stops. It’s a bizarre omission, and it’s one that quietly undermines a lot of what Autosport does right. Deciding whether pitting for fresh rubber during an enduro to salvage a race objective would’ve added an interesting layer of strategy; not being able to do so is nonsense, really.

Goddamn it CM, you had one job. Still going to get it, but that's a bit of a bummer.

Messaged you on steam, but here is a brief recap:

Logitech Driving Force GT great entry-level wheel, works on ps3 and PC, comes with pedals and a shifter built in, currently £85 from Argos online.

Image

Up from that you have the Logitech G27 and Fanatec CSR, but both are a lot more expensive - £200+ at least. I got lucky and found a CSR with pedals cheap second hand - wheels are either used till they die or sold after not much use, so ones being sold are often in almost pristine condition.

This guy talks about wheels and stuff in this video:

Thanks for the very informative reply Trelliz. Sorry that I missed you on Steam; I went AFK and I was posting from my phone. I think that the DFGT will suit me well so I'll go for that. I enjoyed playing a bit of Dirt Showdown on the weekend so I'm keen to get into something with a better racing experience and I'd like to try using a wheel while playing.

The most important thing is getting it set up so that it's comfortable to use for extended periods. I need to use mine more, but was put off by it being on a very improvised setup with an uncomfortable chair. Stuff like GRID etc falls into the middle ground of racing, you can go full obsessive with stuff like rFactor, Game Stock Car, Assetto Corsa etc.

Sounds like a decent racer. That said, I got burnt with Grid 2, so I'll wait for the all-the-DLC edition to go cheap in a sale.

Playing this now on PC. Feels like a proper sequel to GRID. Impressed so far.

All the cockpit view moaners can float off.

Going to get the wheel out and give this a go later :D

Hopefully there are no funny bugs between this and my G27 like there are in the latest F1 games...
