With pre-rendered elements, your only options for widescreen are stretching or cropping. It's just how it is.

Or re-rendering, but it counts on them still having the source assets.

Why are you worried it's going to be a full price release?

If a game is so good that it becomes a classic, just because it's a remake of an older game (one which was one of the best in it's genre) doesn't mean it's not worth anything. It still costs money to do a HD remastering/remake.

Just footage of the original game running on PS4. This site supposedly have an off screen shot of what it looks like at the moment after getting to play it. Big jump in the model quality, looks super sharp.
