I'm stuck on psycho mantis. I know how to beat him I'm just not good enough.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

I don't remember Mantis being as tricky as I found him this time, but I beat him nontheless. I've just finished the Hind D boss fight, so I think I might polish this off tomorrow. :)

Finished! Code name: Iguana. <_<

I enjoyed it, but towards the end some frustrations popped up. The PAL key backtracking for instance was a clever idea, but just felt like padding in execution. I might be wrong, but it also seemed impossible to complete the final bit without taking damage, which screwed me over after I lost a bit too much health beforehand on my first attempt.

Overall though it's still a good game after all this time. Its suffered a bit from age, not least in its story as I feel standards of game storytelling have improved quite a bit. At the time though it WS obviously quite special, and managed to take on some themes games wouldn't normally touch. It was a game with an anti-war message where you were encouraged to avoid killing where possible. With ridiculous super powered boss characters of course.

I do like the way it casually breaks the fourth wall from time to time, from characters who directly reference controls to the Mantis' clever tricks. That sort of thing is still pretty rare.

Anyway, onto MGS2! I've still only played it once.

Finished it today. Very tempted to play Twin Snakes now but might just go straight to MGS2 on Vita.

Sniper Wolf's final scene is so perfect. Snake's speech to her is just... 8-) and  .

Started Twin Snakes last night. Mei Ling and Naomi's voices are terrible.

I got killed about 3 times trying to get to the lift before I realised running in Twin Snakes causes sound that attracts guards. :fp:

Finished Twin Snakes last night with the Meryl ending. Don't really remember anything much after Liquid dies though as I was more asleep than awake.

I would also add that Mei ling should sound American in theory, as she was born and raised in America.

I'm a fair way into it now. I took a bit of a trip back in time after MGS to play the MSX originals, but I've been playing MGS2 over the last couple of days.

Unlike MGS1 I only played this once when it came out, so I could barely remember any of it. So far though I'd say it's actually inferior to its predecessor in most ways. The setting is much less interesting, there's a lot of backtracking, the story and characters are weaker and Raiden's a whiny git. First person aiming is a welcome addition, although it does make the main camera seem that much more inconvenient. Worse still, this time you have to find a map terminal in each new area before your radar kicks in, so you spend a fair amount of time worrying about what might be three steps in front of you until you find them.

It's still good though, and while I think the story's weaker it's also a lot more, well, bonkers.

EDIT: Actually the story started to pick up pretty much right after this post. Well, I got a big chunk of interesting exposition at least, followed by Jen Hale.
