As there was some interest in the Perfeect Dark thread I thought it might be a good time to revisit it's legendary predecessor.

GoldenEye 007 is a 1997 first-person shooter video game developed by Rare for the Nintendo 64 video game console, based on the 1995 James Bond film GoldenEye.
The game received overwhelmingly positive reviews and sold over eight million copies. It is considered an important title in the development of first-person shooters, and has become particularly well-known for the quality of its multiplayer deathmatch mode, as well as its incorporation of stealth and varied objectives into its single player missions. It is featured in several lists of the greatest video games of all time.

Checkpoints:

Week 1 (Monday 22nd March - Sunday 28th March) Complete on at least Agent difficulty
Week 2 (Monday 29th March - Sunday 3rd April) Complete on Secret Agent/Perfect Agent.
Week 3+ (Monday 4th April onwards) Speed runs etc

The structure is pretty informal, so feel free to rush ahead or dawdle as you like, but I would expect people to finish it on Agent at least - it's pretty easy. If people want to do speed runs I can update this post to reflect times.

The game is widely available on N64 so you shouldn't have much trouble finding a cart. It also emulates pretty well on Project 64 and 1964, although the music can be a little choppy on my netbook. If you're emulating then I recommend using a dual analogue pad and using the 2.4 (dual controller) control scheme, then mapping both controllers one and two to the appropriate sticks and buttons on your pad. This way you'll get a dual analogue scheme.

I would play but I don't have the N64 here anymore, and I'm not emulating it.

I'll be using an emulator to play this with a 360 pad, use a c-button move, stick aim (Solitare?) method and set the C-buttons to left stick and stick to right stick on a 360 pad to bring the controls up to date.

I tried that and it felt really twitchy, I kept strafing when I was trying to go forward. I found the dual control options worked better. I am using a sixaxis though, the 360 pad may feel different. The manual aim on the sixaxis is smooooth.

I'm using Project 64 (V1.6) & Xbox 360 pad, but I'm still not sure how to tweak them correctly. I'm finding it bit hard to get used to.

Also theres alot of missing graphics in my Rom file. Bah. Will have to do though. Just wish it's available on XBLA; mainly its single player campagin. Oh well, this will do.

Despite above, I'm having aloooooot of fun with this. It's better as it's 60fps on my PC, even if there was graphical errors. I'd like to see blueish (dark anyway) sky than black sky, but that's not issue (and if it is I could always set up N64 after making room).

I'm on 3rd level. Breezing through levels. Sometimes I miss my youth, wish I could go back and experience it for first time. It was big game. One of my favourite Christmas games, that's for sure (got it at Christmas. Not sure what year, maybe 1998?).

 Goldeneye.

When I was a nipper, playing this between Mario 64, I could never hack 00 Agent, heck Secret Agent was a genuine challenge.

I look forward to rectifying my prior lack of skills

And yeah, now you mention is Mokey, I hadn't factored in the dual control setups, with a bit of tinkering I will hopefully set up a full two stick with sensitivity set up.

I'm using the Project 64 1.7 beta with Jabos Direct 3d 8 plugin. Either that or 1964 with Mudlords Rice plugin. I have blue skies and no graphical errors. But it depends if you want to strawberry float about with plugins or not.

Casino Royale's on telly. Gonna get in the Bond frame of mind :)

I'm using Project64 1.7 beta with Nrage's direct control plugin, so I can play with keyboard and mouse.

What about 007 mode, pure genius 8-)

I was only about 13/14 but I set it to 'real mode' with maximum accuracy and maximum damage, it was essentially one shot kill

Never got past the first level mind.

I'll play, but I want to try and set up my N64 for it first.

Yeah, that was cool. Perfect Dark has a similar mode but I never unlocked it.

I remember doing the bunker level with only fists, sneaking around taking out the guards one by one. It was hard but when I managed it I was like 8-)

Hooked on this already. I just got to train level  I'll be going back to some of these levels and see if I can unlock time cheat, as well beat them. I might try to dig up my N64 and see where I was at, I remember I did new game about three years ago but hopefully I still have old save....doubt it though.

Ah, I still got my save. Everything obtained, except for few cheats (mainly RPC90) as I remember copying my brother's save to just get these cheats for myself :shifty:

I did all levels on Perfect Agent - maybe with some help, I can't remember - but it did take me ages back then.

I would, but after so much Perfect Dark recently I have a feeling Goldeneye may be unpalatable, especially with all the advancements in PD, doubly so with the re-release updates. Last time I played GE it wasn't quite how I remembered it, and I don't want to destroy the memories any further.

I wish I could play but no N64 anymore. I remember buying the GoldenEye OST to accompany 4 player split-screen bouts with Tina Turner on repeat. I think I was the only one who enjoyed that. :|

There are ways around that.
