You did well till the boss killed you.

Are you saying he isn't, ahem... gud?

You could say that. But he did plenty gud. Until the moment when he was not gud enough.

I tried tuning in but the stream was really stuttery and the sound kept clicking. Issue might be my end. However Pedz Division stream is fine so I thought I'd mention it incase.

strawberry float, sorry guys. The stream cut itself off during the boss fight so I wonder if it's related. I'll take a look at the archive.

Yeah, it's strawberry floated. :(

Yeah, it's strawberry floated. :(

I still went back and watched them. It looked like your estus was increasing at points, why was this? It was hard to tell with the jumpyness but you were not visiting the bonfire.

I didn't see the stream, but certain enemies have a chance of granting you an Estus refill when you kill them -- could that be it?

Yeah sometimes when you defeat large enemies or a phantom you get an extra estus as long as you aren't carrying the maximum amount.

I'm going back on with Dark Souls III in a sec.

If it's choppy, can someone let me know in the chat?

Ok, TWA let me know it was chopping up bad, so I dropped the quality all the way down to 2mbps/360p/30fps and it smoothed out for him.

But then, after DS3 crashed to desktop, I ran a Twitch speedtest tool and was seeing I had a rock-solid 10Mbps+ upstream to the London servers.

I had a look at the defaults again and Nvidia's "ultra" (1080p/60fps) setting is 9Mbps, so I put it back up to that to test again. TWA again said it was choppy, but I checked on my phone and it was running sweet. Looked at the archives and it's great.

But here's the rub, if the viewer's unable to handle the stream, there are no quality options. It's a constant 1080/60 or bust. People are getting choppy shite when I'm streaming because nothing's reducing in quality for them. But I'm sure I've seen quality options on Twitch before, so how do I enable them?

It turns out, Twitch have a policy of limiting transcoding to the 1,200 most popular streams at any time. If you're not in that bracket, you get nothing. And they can get in the strawberry floating sea with that shite.

I'm switching to YouTube.

You get quality options if you're a partner.

Sadly its not the same for me. It does seem daft I cant select a slightly lower quality setting for even playback.

Which sounds like a really easy, super achievable thing to do.

If you meet those requirements you're likely in the top 1200 anyway.

YouTube, on the other hand, opens transcoding to everyone. So I can, say, broadcast at 1440p60 for a native-quality (permanent!) archive, while viewers are able to pick whatever quality suits them best. And that's before you get into the general improvements in features like viewers being able to rewind your stream back, or a broadcaster interface that's actually worth a gooseberry fool (with a realtime "stream health" log and analytics).

I like the look of YT, I would quite like us to potentially use it for our streams, the question is though how much it is used by the masses as where they people are is where we need to be.
