I can scarcely imagine how jarring the graphical leap between the two episodes would be, to play them back to back in their original states.

Something bad had to have happened within Valve for there to be no continuation of the story, when it was clearly a money-spinner for them. Do they not feel like anything they make can live up to our expectations?
