Actually replace "in the end" with "half way through".

And "won" with "was knocked out".

Still, SMG was probably my second choice for GOTD. I can't knock HL2, though both made me smile for different reasons. HL2 was at the technological craft evident through the game, from the sheer versatility of the Source engine to Valve's ability to conjure up set pieces. SMG though, made me smile through pure enjoyment at playing it - sure, when you look at its bare bones it isn't that much of a jump from SM64, but the meat they've piled on doesn't contain an ounce of fat and is one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had. It just made me grin from start to finish.

For me, HL2 was the "cleverer" game, probably. But, unlike Deus Ex, I just wasn't as completely engrossed by it throughout the game's entire length (it's not surprise I'm going to namedrop Water Hazard right now).

Loved both SMG and HL2 but I refrained from voting. While they're obviously great games, I guess they're just not what I think of as my games of the decade.

this day has just been full of fail, first with the apocalyps3 and now with hl2 not game of the decade.

Win or lose, both are fantastic games from start to finish and every gamer should experience them at least once in their life.

Even though my choice (Baldurs Gate 2) got knocked out in round 1 I'm happy to see Mario Galaxy get the result as it's an undeniably great game.

A worthy final. The top three match my own top three too, except on different days Resi 4 would swap with HL2. Good going GRcade. The other two in the top 5 aren't exactly slouches either.

And great job Skippy. Pretty much a thankless task, and FWIW I thought the PM vote for the final was the right thing to do.
