That's not too far off from saying 90's GTA > 00's GTA.

Graphics are important, and the PS2-GTA's play brilliantly. So it's certainly a step backwards for PSP GTA, at least. Especially considering the next logical step was a San Andreas City.

You're wrong there Croppy. Vice City Stories stands above the other handheld GTAs due to it's amazing story, great soundtrack and the cast of characters which made the world come alive. It's my second favourite GTA(behind Vice City ).

Do you mean that it's a backwards step to port a dual-screen game that actually used the DS's capabilities extensively to a single screen device without a touch screen, or a backwards step in terms of the game not being another PS2-esque GTA?

The latter. Going back to top-down after managing to squeeze the 3D engine onto PSP. If it's full price (which it certainly will be), it's a bit of a kick in the balls compared to the fidelity of the experience you got for the same cash a couple of years ago.

TBH, I much prefer the 2D games. I found them more fun.

What does time have to do with anything? Super Mario World may have been a SNES game, but it is just as good a game or better (depending who you ask) as/than Super Mario Galaxy.

I bloody hope the camera will be better - The DS version one is well annoying.

I can't see the point really, Chinatown Wars was designed around the strengths of the DS, putting it on the PSP would make it seem borked. They should have gone for a San Andreas Stories and played to the strengths of the PSP.

In terms of tech, I suppose you're bang-on. As a game, though, Chinatown Wars was super-fun. Really, really good.

Thinking about it, both of the statements I proposed are probably true, as the touch screen elements were superbly integrated in the DS version (particularly the map and interface stuff) and these will be lost in the PSP port. I don't think the game will be as slick or work as well without them, and while the core game around the bells and whistles is very good, this sounds - right now - like a pretty pointless port.

Without meaning to sound thick.....is this going to be a straight port, or is it going to be re-make to be more like Vice City / Liberty City Stories?

Pretty much straight as it's only being done because the game bombed on DS

The only thing that will be able to attract me to this release is if it was a budget release, or if the multiplayer was fleshed out with a true online component because right now I'm staring at a product that doesn't need anymore power behind it, it worked fine on the DS and the touch screen PDA/mini games were an integral part of the experience, not just in the hotwiring/paying tolls but also in those specific to missions like the chinese dragon one and applying the explosive foam to the truck for instance.

Nope, totally not convinced, this will be a pretty yet borked version of a DS classic.

Which is 100% factually correct.

Its far too glitchy though (on PSP anyway). If you get in one of the faster cars or bikes and start speeding along a decent strtetch of road the world pretty much disappears.
