PostGTASC 2017 - Week 7: Team GRcade knocked out in 218th.

Hi and welcome to the 2017 edition of the GTASC (Great True Achievement Score Challenge). This year, five of GRcade's greatest Achievers are taking part in the competition which is run on the TrueAchievements website. For the duration of this contest, this thread will be used to detail the twists and turns, their triumphs and falls. This is their story.

So who is representing Team GRcade?

Glad you asked. Five of the very best Achievement whores that GRcade has to offer.

How does the GTASC work?

Basically your team tries not to be one of the lowest scoring teams of the week. Teams are eliminated every week before scores are reset. You can read more about it here

How can I follow Team GRcade's progress?

Our homepage can be found here. This shows our current score, position and distance from the elimination zone. You can also see a feed of our recent achievements.

If you want to see the full leaderboard it can be found here.

There is also a solo competition running simultaneously, we are all entered for this as well. You can check out the leaderboard for this right here.

How can I help?

We're always happy to receive tips and advice on games or achievements, and encouragement/adulation is always welcome. But the best way to get involved is to boost achievements with us, be it passive (eg gifting coins or items in games that require them) or active (generally standing around so we can shoot you in the face repeatedly). If you fancy helping out, feel free to post in the thread.

Who made that amazing logo?

That would be jawafour.

Nothing wrong with a little optimism, but win it? The guys left at the end are genuine crazy people. I'll be happy to go past the half way mark, from then on it gets pretty hardcore.

I'm at work all day tomorrow so it'll be a slow start from me. I'll be on it from Monday though.

Bloody hell, some people have been planning for this, eh?! An hour in, and someone has done 49 achievements. But ahead of them is the person with just one achievement that is somehow worth over 8000 TA points!

EDIT: It's the Triple Elite achievement for Elite, which only 8 people on TA have ever unlocked. Surely it would have made more sense to save that beast until later in the contest?

There are bonuses available for being the top scoring team in a week, plus some people just like the glory of being at the top of the board. But yeah, that's pretty wasteful really.

Popped a couple of big achievements this morning just to get me on the board, I should be able to add plenty more tomorrow though.

I see some of us have already resorted to breaking out the #IDARB.

Haha, I can justify this! I was on the TA site and saw their poll for best achievements, and the Twitter/Twitch one for #IDARB was pretty clever. So I nabbed that, then saw that three others were easy to get.

Just collecting a few from Stikbold now. Genuinely fun game, which I recommend if it's still super cheap.

Yeah I bought that in the sale, it's joined the ever expanding backlog of stuff I've picked up on the cheap. One day I'll get around to playing all this stuff. Maybe.

We're in the top 100 teams now.

How would something like this happen?

I'm not fully au fait with how TA works, but is it likely they had some really rare achievements (like that Triple Elite one), so someone else unlocking it would massively reduce its value?

That's right. Because GTASC works by effectively taking a snapshot of your TA score at the start of the week. Any achievement which becomes less rare over the course of the week drops in score and causes you to go into negative. This is known in the competition as 'ratio decay'.

It's fairly easy to avoid, usually as long as you're not beating new games in the first week of release you'll be fine. When games go on Games With Gold the scores usually increase a little as they get a lot of new players with few achievements. I'm expecting a bit of a boost with Killer Instinct next week.

Looking like a fairly comfortable first week for us, just worth watching that cut off line as it can shoot up on the last day. Pretty sure we'll be ok from here though.

Ah, see what you mean. An hour to go, and we're now only 1070 above the drop. I'll have another look in half an hour. If it's looking dodgy, I've got a few points I can easily nab.

A thousand should be OK, don't think it'll move that much. Save your points if you can. Don't forget that if you want to scan points in you'll need to request an update on TA, simply getting the achievements isn't enough.
