Guns N' Roses - Chinese Democracy In Not Crap Shocker..

Got this off Itunes yesterday, been listening to it on and off and despite expecting it to be a bit pants after the endless delays/re-recordings etc.. it's actually rather good.

Quite different from the Guns N' Roses sound of old but still close enough you can tell it's them despite the line up change. Axl's voice is still sounding good which I wasn't expecting after hearing a couple of their more recent live performances where he didn't sound half as good though I guess some studio magic might've helped.

Overall though it's a very good rock album, probably one of the best in recent years.

Anyone else bought it and like/hate it?

I heard the track the album is named after and I didn't think it was too bad, which is odd because I think most of their other stuff is utter gash.

Yeah that's not bad and it's a fair indication of what the albums like.

They seem to have gone for a more modern slightly heavier sound rather than trying to recapture the sound of the old lineup and I think to be honest, it's all the better for it.

In fact, I can see some of their older fans not liking this so much but if other people will give it a chance, I can see it gaining them a lot of new fans who weren't into them in the 80's/90's.

I don't think there's any particular stand out amazing track like with some of their older stuff but the whole album seems consistently good throughout.

I really wanted to hate it, since I had to endure the Velvet Revolver borefest at Live8.

Yeah not too much of a Velvet Revolver fan. I was expecting them to be really good and this to be dire but seems to have worked out the other way round weirdly.

I've always hoped they'd one day bury the hatchet and reform Guns N Roses but if this albums an indication of what's to come then I'm quite happy with this new lineup for now..

Then they have had like 15 years to get it right I guess

You can also listen to the whole album on their MySpace page.

I've listened to a couple of tracks, and I'll be buying it tomorrow. Even if I didn't like it, I'd be buying it, after waiting so many years. I guess the Americans would call it "closure".

Yeah, I've heard a couple of tracks so far, and as someone who hates Axl for what he did to the band, I was surprised to find myself liking it. It's a more modern sound, sure, but it pretty much had to be.

I've been listening to it for a few days now and even though at first I really didn't like it, it really has grown on me.

One for GnR fans, or just fans of gooseberry fool power-ballads. Sounds like something that should've been released 15-20 years ago, and would've been acceptable in the soft-rock canon back then. Not now.

Then again, the same could've been said about Glasvegas' album, but strangely I liked that.

Doesn't sound like you've listened to it at all.

Was about to post the same. The above description is what I was expecting of the album but far from what it's actually turned out like.

Doesn't surprise me that you're the first to reply to my post, and insinuate my ignorance because my opinion differs clearly from yours. I've listened to about half of it on Myspace, and I'm absolutely correct.

I've just found out that Buckethead plays on all but 2 tracks.

Awesome.

But Bumblefoot can.

Which gives me another excuse to post this. Best solo ever.

For some reason it reminds me of Spineshank. I don't think there is a bigger insult I could give it.

But I like Spineshank....

I have fgiven the new album a listen, In my opinion it's far from great stuff, but its not that bad either, kinda like Guns and roses performance at Download 2006, you either like it or hate it.

Some of the rifts alone are pretty epic.
