Nah, it's just that Sheperds campaign isn't padded out with rubbish that makes the game feel drawn out. Gordons campaign is drawn out, but Sheperds campaign just keeps on picking up pace as it gets closer to the end. It's fantastic. Gordons campaign is just so padded out with fluff, I mean in the beginning when you have to cross the sewage stuff? Really? The fight against those tentacles? Boring as hell. Sherperds campaign is much better for me, I enjoyed the dark rooms where the aliens start spawning in, it has a little bit of horror in certain bits, and the action is much better paced.

Fair enough. Personally I found HL1 to be really boring compared to HL2, especially at the start where you have to wait ten minutes just to start the frigging game, but hopefully Black Mesa Source can liven it up.

Opposing force has you waiting for half a minute and then everything goes to gooseberry fool, you get put right into the action which is just awesome. You even fight the special ops black ninja women earlier on.

What about the boot camp bit?

Anyway, at the time HL1's intro was stunning. I remember watching it for the first time and thinking "my god, this is like being on a ride at Universal Studios!" It was the first time a game actually spent time to suck you into the world rather than plonking you in a war after a CG intro.

Boot camp is training  I skipped that. And half a minute is a bit of hyperbole. Compared to Gordons adventure, Sheperd had a much quicker start and I loved it. Gordon was a tosser running around with a crowbar for quite awhile.

I hereby put down a tenner on Valve not showing Episode 3 this week. I hope I'm wrong.

Episode 3 better be bloody massive and with more twists than a twisty thing or I'm not going to be impressed it's taking so long.
