NO Half Life 2: Episode 3 at E3 this year. Sadness erupts.

Anything to do with games at all.

The first game ever completed using the Source engine (before HL2 even) was Troika's Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines. The release was held off so HL2 wouldbe the first game release using the egine, but VTM:B was still chock full of bugs and memory leaks.

Damn fine game though.

Yeah, like Taffy mentioned, bloodlines used the Source engine. Megachock full of bugs.

Other source games include Sin episodes and The Ship.

There isn't a load of developers lining up for the Source engine for a reason.

I remember Bloodlines and it wasn't gooseberry fool. Buggy, but not gooseberry fool.

The Ship I'll give you. Didn't enjoy it at all - thought it was a bit dire actually. Saying that I never tried the multiplayer.

I'm going to kill you Karl. The engine was gooseberry fool. The game is amazing. One of my all time favourite games. I've been banging on about Bloodlines since it was announced.

Also Unreal Engine could probably do portals too. It's not a source exclusive

Whatever issues you have with Source, nobody can deny it has fantastic potential when used right.
Anyway, let's keep this thread for Episode 3 talk, ladies and gents.

And yes, I'm aware I talked a lot about Source and UE3 earlier, just don't see it geting us anywhere particularly fast is all.

...the same can be said for any game engine, nobody can deny each game engine has a fantastic potential when used right. That's like saying even a gooseberry fool looking car can perform well if you put an awesome engine in it and tweak it all out.

Jesus, you're determined not to let this go, aren't you?

If you can provide better examples than Half-Life 2 and its episodes, Team Fortress 2, Portal, Counterstrike and Left 4 Dead, for games that use their engines well, then go for it - there aren't many that even come close.

If you don't want to talk about it, then stop strawberry floating talking about it. Don't tell me to shut up :| If you wanna just have the last word which is totally stupid then I understand.

The fact is that there's many games that use their own engines very well. IDtech: Doom 3, ETQW. Unreal Engines: all of the Unreal tourny games aned Gears of War. Yes Valves games are incredibly polished, but they take how long to make their games? Yeah that's what I thought so. Halo 3 is incredibly polished even for a console game. Almost all Final Fantasy games are incredibly polished too. You have no real point about the game engines except that their respective developers either put in a lot of time polishing it, or they don't.

Source engine is nice, wow, one point to you, you must have a huge internet penis. But whatever Source does is not exclusive to it alone. Even when Portal was released there were articles mentioning how it's such a simple concept and it runs well in Source. In fact portals were done before Portal. It was just polished up a bit more for the Source engine.

Don't want to talk about this subject? Then just stop. There's nothing more irritating then a poster who just cries about getting back on topic but doesn't really have any points to get back on topic. I'm actually looking forward to the next engine Valve put out.

To say that the HL2 episodes are not a step forward is very odd. HL2:E2 looks absolutely beautiful.

In fact even Ep1 and HL2 still look wonderful. As has been said, the Source engine has been updated and is certainly no slacker.

And everyone with access to Steam should play this gorgeous looking game called Zeno Clash. It looks bloody brilliant and was made by a few blokes with Source.:

But that's not even what I said. I didn't say the Episodes weren't a step forward.

I meant Cropolite asking for HL3 instead of HL2:E3. :)

Try reading my post and then apologising, as not once did I tell you to shut up. And not once did I insult you, or even come across aggressively in any way. :|

No you didn't. But I detest being told to talk about something else by a poster, when they could easily talk about something else themselves. You didn't even read my post properly either.

The fact of the matter is this: Half-Life2 is the best FPS EVER, to say its engine is rubbish is ridiculous. All the games on the orange box run perfect [on pc/360] and I dont think theyd run/look as good or BE as good with any other engine.

As of E3, I think we'll see some footage of Ep3!

 There you ignorant muppets go again. I'm sorry if I was being a dick but how can I possibly respond to gooseberry fool like that? I didn't say Source was rubbish. But it's old now. It's not going to compete on the same level as newer engines will.

You just wanted the last word a47, you countered with points that I did not make, just like Photek does in this here post. It's a dick thing to do.

I'd constitute that as 'rubbish' wouldn't you?

Err no I wouldn't. There's a big difference between saying an engine is rubbish, and saying that I felt like a floating camera in the Half Life games, but felt much better in TF2 and Left 4 Dead.

Unfortunately, you all love to make gooseberry fool up and quote things out of context, then put up a fuss and cry when you get verbally bitchslapped back to the middle ages for doing so.
