'So our game's called Halo...'

http://www.bungie.net/News/content.aspx ... nniversary

 10 years went by a bit too quickly for my liking. Lots of Olde Screenshottes and a rather nice video to go with them in that link.

:shifty:

Me too

I'd love to be able to play through that old version. Most of it made it into the final game - the first thing I remember about the very first videos was the Warthog bouncing around with Real Physics and Stuff(tm) - but I can't imagine an Elite putting his hands up like that when you point a pistol at him.

Having seen this, a staging of the Reach poster on Sandbox, on HBO:

I wondered if any of you chaps had any favourite screenshots worth sharing? Your own, someone else's, doesn't matter.

One to start with, the unbelievable Sand Monster (not mine):

Found this ages ago, not sure where it's from originally. A walkthrough of various iterations of Halo from RTS to 3rd person all the way to 1st narrated by some Bungie team members. Includes gameplay footage from the Macworld and various early E3 showings (ie actual gameplay, not the scripted stuff shown at the shows).

EDIT: Apparently it was shown at some FanFest show and was not originally meant to be seen by the public. The version on youtube apparently came from a PC Gamer CD back in 2004. Best bit? The foreshadowing of the "unfinished Halo" in Halo 3 when the "broken Halo" appears at 4.05.

That's brilliant, thanks. I've always been intrigued by Halo starting out as something like Myth-in-space, but I've never seen any footage of it until now.

Apologies if old...

'Halo Waypoint' Xbox Live destination launches this fall

http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/23/new-halo-waypoint-xbox-live-destination-launches-this-fall/

Let's face it, you love Halo. You've read all the books, plastered your wall with posters, played with the action figures, drank that awful Game Fuel, built Master Chief out of papier-maché (but not the stupid Arbiter) and, of course, played all the games. Now, as you sit there surrounded by tiny, plastic Spartans, contemplating your next foray into Cortana fanfiction, you might be thinking, "Man, I wish there was somewhere where I could get all the latest information on Halo, the best franchise ever."

You're in luck, average Halo fan, because Microsoft is setting up a special destination on Xbox Live just for you. Dubbed the Halo Waypoint, the Xbox Live hot spot will launch this fall, featuring "content ranging from podcasts, trailers and screenshots, to exclusive video footage you won't find anywhere else," according to the press release. As if that weren't enough, Halo Waypoint will also have "a career system and player rankings tied to both in-game and out-of-game accomplishments related to Halo." And if that's not enough, it will also host early previews of the upcoming Halo Legends anime series as well as behind-the-scenes features.

No no, don't pinch yourself, this is real.

I don't see the point to be honest.

Earlier on I had a grazy Grifball match in the double exp playlist that saw my pick up an extermination, 3 killtaculars, 3 killtrocitys and a killimanjaro.

Can you unlock the Killtacular achievement in Grifball?

you can if it's on the sandbox variant that appears every so often in Action Sack.

Action Sack is great, was playing it earlier. Got a game type in which only sticks count towards the score, was messy hectic fun.

Yeah some of them are good, I like Dodgeball and Run For Cover as well, it just shows that you can mix things up quite a bit in Halo and add a bit of variety to your standard gunning that goes beyond the typical 'capture the flag', 'plant the bomb' gametypes. Not too keen on Team Sumo though....

Weren't sure which Halo thread to post this in but there's rumours that Steven Spielberg is interested in the Halo movie. Hyping up the fact that on of Hollywood's biggest names is on board would be the perfect way to drum up even more hype for the movie.

It's not a secret that Steven Spielberg is into videogames, both as a gamer himself and producer of the Medal of Honor and Boom Blox series, and even going back to the old-school SCUMM game The Dig (I've spied him myself at past Electronic Entertainment Expos). But is he also into Peter Jackson's sloppy seconds?

IESB says that Spielberg is "in active negotiations" to get his hands on the immensely popular HALO game franchise to resuscitate the deceased movie. Spielberg is apparently hoping he can take Master Chief further than his TINTIN partner could with Fox and Universal.

Spielberg (who presumably would just be producing) apparently flipped for writer Stuart Beattie's spec script for the story of Microsoft's faceless hero and his fellow soldiers fighting evil aliens on a giant space hoop. Whether the pricey project can respawn with the now-funded Dreamworks and their new home at Disney remains the big question.

Gotta admit I really just don't understand the obsession with the HALO series myself, or why it would make an interesting movie beyond a purely visual appeal, but maybe a guy like Spielberg could bring something extra to it.

Extra Tidbit: Beattie also wrote a draft of the GEARS OF WAR screenplay, so he's obviously into games as well.

I really think Halo could make a great film if it's allowed to tell a decent story about those in the war other than Master Chief. It could make a great trilogy as they have epic battles like the Fall of Reach that could become rather epic.
The only problem I can see is that fans would want the films to focus to heavily on the Master Chief and while he's great in a game he's not a good character for a film. They need to get people interested in the universe as a whole as they have a lot of content to draw from to make some great films with compelling stories.
