Anything to do with games at all.

Damn, wish I could just pop into a time machine, grab a couple of beers and play Halo 2 with the old GamesRadar crew, just shows how far games have decline, no one can replicate the magic of one of the first Xbox Live games :(

It's more to do with the fact that people have grown up since then, probably commute more to jobs, have kids, families etc.

My Nephews are playing Halo MCC all the time with their mates.

I remember the first night when Halo 2 launched, playing on Coagulation with Eighthours, Rik and the old gang. Everyone was chatting so it was really tactical.

It felt like the future, but online gaming has somehow declined, too many gimmicks and too many people not using their mics :(

Strangely enough, either through fact BB is better or technology but voice chat on X1 is crystal clear, I think we may restart halo together, we tried before but it was broke, I'm up for it.

At mo, this is actually delivering what I want, I can play all the games co-op with my mates and the MP is keeping us together!

I miss Rik & Fishy.

There are a few reasons why I think there isn't a group of forum regulars playing Halo MCC.

Firstly, the obvious reason is that the game was broken at launch. Though it is now apparently fixed, it has probably sickened many people off. It has also missed that launch period where a lot of people from the forum naturally play it intensely:

Second, it's not a new title. People have played these titles before, so perhaps not as many people bought MCC as would buy Halo 5 and try that out online. There's probably less chance of a forum community on titles that have been played to death many times over the past 10 years.

Thirdly, I don't think a forum community builds up around a game now with concentrated effort to meet up at a regular time. It happens with Mario Kart, Driveclub and TLOU, but they plan it and make it a weekly event. If you want the forum to play MCC, try and organise a day when a core group of players can all play.

Finally, I think online is completely different to when Halo 2 came out. Back then, online wasn't prevalent in most games, so each big LIVE title was an event. As such, a group of maybe 20/30 members would all but the latest LIVE title and move to it - so there would be PGR2, then Rainbow Six: Black Arrow, then Halo 2, then Burnout 3. Choice was a lot smaller. Now, there are too many titles to list, so people invariably just do their own thing. And people are a lot older, so don't play online every night.

Personally, I loved playing online with forum regulars around early 2004-2007. For me, it ended when I moved away to University and didn't have an Internet connection that would support online gaming. It means that I missed out on a lot of forum multiplayer for Gears 2, Halo 3 etc. Only Motorstorm Mondays felt like those days back on the original Xbox. Mario Kart was good but, again, I moved away shortly after they started so I have to miss out.

I don't run this thread so I can't ask for Sundaylo's in the title, annoyingly, when it was broken we actually had a decent night playing custom games. You're right about it being broken ruining it though.

I disagree slightly with the fact we've played the games before, I mean yes we have but if you ever get an X1 and load up a MP game of Halo CE/Halo 2 you'll realise that at 60fps it's not at all like you remembered, the maps guns, spawns are the same but how it feels and looks is really different.

It takes a little time to adjust to the rules/physics of each game onlinr, and in playlists that switch them each game you do need to get used to all 4 games but it's not too bad. Out of all the MP, halo 3 is the most similar to its original, halo2/4 have vastly improved performance, I'd go as far as to say 4 MP is transformed into the best of them.

I just think the fact that the game isn't entirely new means not as many people will buy it and play it online religiously like they might with, say, Halo 5. I think more people will buy that than but MCC, purely because not everyone is interested in a "greatest hits" package even if it (now) offers great value for money.

If you ever want something edited in the tyle with regards to hosting games, just let me know and I will change it.

If it wasn't for the fact that Xbone software is nonexistent here, I would have picked the console up along with MCC by now. I have seen one shop sell new Xbone software (but not the console) and no pre-owned shops stock Xbone stuff. I will likely have to wait until returning to the UK, by which time Halo 5 will be out so maybe people won't play MCC anymore. Though if it is anything like Halo 4, maybe I will stick to the older games.

Found a couple of Easter Eggs in last level of Halo 3 lastnight

First up, half naked Jason Jones (co-founder of Bungie)

Then the last ever grunt in the game pleads for his life and tells us a little about Master Chiefs history.

Having played all the Halo's now extensivley on the MCC and finishing 3, halfway through 1 and 4 also I can say that I now put them in this order campaign wise.

Halo 3 > Halo 4 > Halo CE > Halo 2

I know Halo 4 gets a lot of stick and the Prometheans are a bit rubbish but the Covenant battles in Halo 4 are a step above Halo CE and 2 while also having no brutes. Add in the massive graphical leap and yeah, I think it's second only to Halo 3.

The improved frame rate in Halo 4 is huge, the way prometheans even die looks spectacular now, honestly had a blast playing it co-op lastnight.

You call the Prometheans "a bit rubbish" but you fight them for at least 50% of the game! These naff enemies alone are why it is worse than 3 and CE. I haven't played 2 through since going through it originally in 2004, so will have to wait until I get the MCC to re-evaluate it. I would have though, that because you fight the Covenant for the most part, it would be better than 4 by default.

There is an argument to be made too, that ODST and Reach have the best campaigns of any of the Halo games. I remember them as being a sort of "best of" Halo in their approach.

Covenant or not Halo 2's campaign is a mess, even with its updated graphics on MCC.

I don't get the Promethean hate at all. They're fine enemies, and add a little variety to the campaign. Worst thing about Halo 4 is the generic sci-fi corridor shooter it becomes in the later stages. But it's a much better game than Halo 2.

I agree with the corridor stuff and also agree that in wide open area's the covenant/promethean battles are better on the whole than the entirety of Halo 2's awful campaign. I also like the Promethean weaponry, a lot.

HALO COMMUNITY UPDATE 3.27.15

When we released our most recent update, we mentioned that the team was hard at work on next month’s update, and seeing as April is drawing near, we’re checking in to provide the latest on The Master Chief Collection. Let’s get into it.

CONTENT UPDATES
We’re pleased to say that this month’s update has normalized and improved matchmaking, and we’re looking forward to delivering additional updates that address top community items and requests. Our next CU, which is on track for delivery in April, will address a variety of issues across the game, including specific improvements to ranking, new quit and betrayal penalties, and more as we prepare to roll out ranks to additional playlists. We’ll provide more about what’s included as we get closer to the release of the CU. As always, full patch notes will be released once the CU becomes available.

PLAYLIST UPDATES
The team continues to build out additional experiences, and is also working to update team sizes for select playlists. This evening we've rolled out an update for the Halo: CE playlist that changes the team size from 2-3 players to strictly 2 players, and will be monitoring the playlist for a day or two to ensure that the settings are acting as intended. Based on results and feedback, we’ll be looking to update team sizes and player counts across existing and upcoming playlists, including Team Doubles, as we get closer to the next update. Lastly, SWAT and Team Snipers will both make a return into the rotation in the near future, and we’ll continue to evaluate playlist data to determine which playlists become permanent additions.

I’ll be back with the latest on MCC, details about Season 2 of the Halo Championship Series, and more soon. Until then,

Bravo

So good to finally have team doubles back, by far my favourite playlist. Good to see the game is FINALLY just about working, only problem I get regularly now is campaign terminals - 50/50 whether they actually play when you discover them which is a shame as they are interesting to watch.

To be honest I still prefer the originals to this collection. It's a bit awkward in a playlist where you've got three or four different versions of the game to switch between within the one playlist. Each has subtle nuances that make a big difference such as the amount of damage dished out by the same weapon differs from Halo 2 to Halo 4, or the amount of damage you can take, obviously Halo 4 plays quite differently to the other Halos because there really is no ducking and covering when your shields are down, it's much more COD-style gameplay.

Anyway, had a great game of 2 on 2 neutral bomb on Halo 2 yesterday. The objective small team games have always been my favourite. Please can we see a return of 2 on 2 - 2flag? That was fecking brilliant on Halo 3.

It take a bit of time to adjust to each games play style (halo 2's grenades are hilariously overpowered) but once you get the hang of it its pretty awesome, played team doubles and BTB lastnight. Halo 4 Ragnorak (Vanhalla) is epic and looks gorgeous and of course we played some single flag CTF on Stonetown Halo 2 Anniversary (Zanzibar) which is stunning.

I'm actually the worst at Halo 3 out of all 4 of them, I just can't seem to kill anything for some reason. :fp:

When Halo mp games have even teams and a decent objective type, no other online mp games come close imo.

It's funny that though. I'd say the same thing, but since 343 took over to me it feels like objective type games have taken a bit of a backseat. They don't tend to like dedicated objective playlist and instead prefer to mix them in with the slayer variant - which puts it up for veto, 9 times out of 10 when you're in a big team you have to play slayer. I'm also so glad that Halo 5 is going back to 4 versus 4. 5 on 5 is wank, arena type maps are good but actually I think 4 on 4 works well on medium sized maps too not just smaller enclosed areas. Simply put, 5 on 5 is two players too many. I just wish they'd leave the COD type gameplay to the COD market which is drastically falling away now and bring Halo back in line to what it was. The thinking man's shooter.

Thankfully they've announced on their twitter that they are introducing a dedicated objective playlist 'in the coming weeks'.

Just fired this up for a game seeing as people say it's almost working. Couldn't find any players for a game on the Halo 2 playlist.

For the record I didn't wait for ages but around three times as long as you would wait for any other working multiplayer game with matchmaking.
