Just cross save at launch.

Pre-load is up now on both PC & XB1. There's a live action trailer today as well.

Anyone interested in getting the game digitally in order to have both Xbox One and PC versions, it appears to be cheapest at CDKeys...

Bought the Ultimate Edition from CDKeys while it was £50. Unfortunately the key isn't available until some time nearer (or on) 17th Feb, so I don't get any early access to Halo Wars Definitive, and can't pre-load. But I've got all the extras for the price I was expecting to pay for the regular version, so it's still a good deal.

Polygon - 8

HALO WARS 2 CAN'T STICK ITS LANDING, BUT IT REMAINS ACCESSIBLE WITHOUT FEELING DUMBED DOWN

I couldn't tell you why, from a business perspective, Halo Wars 2 exists. It doesn’t seem like the kind of project that will yield blockbuster returns for anyone involved. It doesn’t move the RTS genre forward. But it does make for an accessible RTS that doesn’t feel stupid in the process, and it serves as a reminder of how well Halo’s world and fiction lends itself to spaces outside of the first person shooter, even if it can’t quite shake its franchise avoidance of meaningful denouement.

EGM - 9

As a fan of the original Halo Wars and RTS titles in general, I almost couldn’t be happier with Halo Wars 2. It continues the story of some of my favorite characters in the expanded Halo universe in a fitting and fun way, while giving me the competitive, strategic gameplay I expect and crave from a game of this genre. I wish the campaign would’ve given me a bit more length and freedom in a lot of scenarios, but other than that, Halo Wars once again shows the right way to do real-time strategy experiences on a console.

Destructoid - 7

If you're craving an RTS on a console, or perhaps aren't particularly well-versed in the genre, Halo Wars 2 has you covered. It doesn't offer much that other games in the same space have given us over the past 10 years, but it's polished and fun to play.

Metro GameCentral - 8

Easily the best real-time strategy on a console, and a fast-paced, accessible wargame that every Xbox owner should try and experience.

Press Start - 7

Halo Wars 2 is familiar but different in all of the right ways. A short, robust campaign, rich with genuinely effective character performances and a compelling (though far too absent) villain is complemented by a multiplayer facet that is far better off on the back of a daring deck-building venture.

I need to start putting my Metacritic predictions on here.

Any word on how it plays on touch screens? Desperately want a C&C style gaming I can play on my Surface.

Key available, downloading now.

Am I right in thinking that as of this release, the entire Halo series is now playable on Xbox One (though Reach is only BC)?

Ive got £50 credit sitting on my xbox account, never played the first one, but I loved C&C back in the day, is this basically the same premise? Build bases, fight skirmishes etc?

Fabian Delph is a banana split.

Exactly that, but more focused on fighting tho.

Online blitz mode has a firefight variant! :o

Apparently on PC the options interface, specifically the keybindings, are a unique kind of hell:

Picked this up at lunch. Still have no internet at home (recently moved) so I'll crack on with the single-player for now.

Ive watched numerous reviews and it just seems a little bit..basic? Not many missions either. Oh well :( Gonna keep my xbox credit for mass effect i think.

Played 2hrs including tutorial and on first impressions I love this, slick as fook. Excellent looking and unlike HW1 it's really smooth.

Cut scenes deserve a mention, very impressive stuff from blur, new soundtrack is gorgeous too.
MS must have spent a fortune on this.

Going to finish campaign then try Blitz.

I played both tutorials and the first two missions tonight. Quite enjoyed it, though I'm a bit gooseberry fool at it. I wish there was a way to cycle through different groups instead of only group types. I guess assigning groups to the d-pad kinda solves it but there are only 4 slots.

Cut-scenes are indeed amazing.

This has been my most anticipated game for ages (I bloody loved Halo Wars on xbox) but I annoyingly don't own an xbox and won't until scorpio turns up.
I hope they make this one of the games that gets the inevitable Scorpio makeover.

It's pretty much nailed in to be given a boost on Scorpio.

Just finished the Campaign.

It's very short, I think around 7 hours or so on Normal difficulty. The ending caught me by surprise as I felt like there would have been another mission or two.

Story was really good and the cutscenes were knock-out.

I think multiplayer is going to have to be really good because Campaign left me hungry for more.

I reckon there'll be DLC, hopefully for free like Halo 5.
