I also think Will Graham is far too whiny yes he's a seriously troubled individual but the TV series leans a little too heavily on his inability to cope.

Disregarding the fact that Hopkins was second to the role. Brian Cox is sublime in Manhunter (the original Red Dragon).

As for Mads - his is a wonderful take on the role. Primarily because it is so iconic (and Hopkins was so) it is all the more revelatory to see how well he plays him.

I really struggle to get on board with people who express that view. It's very close minded.

I'm sure many people were the same in regards to the Joker after Nicholson had portrayed him so well in Batman but Heath Ledger came along and re-invented Joker in his own unique way and was brilliant. The Hannibal series for me is too polished it needs to be grittier.

This is exactly what Mikkelsen has done if you ask me.

As far as it being grittier, I think it is in a way no other show has been before. It presents the most strawberry floated up and ugly gooseberry fool in such a beautiful manner like it's a work of art. The juxtaposition between content and execution makes it far more disturbing that were it presented all grungy and grimy in my opinion.

I agree. I finished Red Dragon recently and I've just started reading Silence of the Lambs and I can't hear Hannibal as anyone other than Mads.

Hopkins just never did it for me, his performance always felt a little comedic to me. Mads on the other hand seems to be able to have this presence, an ability to be both likeable and your worst nightmare at the same time.

I dont know why, but that sounds strawberry floating incredible.

Yeah, I'm a big fan of Silence of the Lambs, but I much prefer Mads' interpretation of the character.

Like I said before in other thread, Hopkins is too pantomime-y in his performance as Hannibal.

But we could see another side of Mads' Hannibal when he get caught eventually. He probably show his insanity more than he was a free man.

Let's wait and see.

The dance of words between Will and Hannibal is really good this week.

Oh Gillian.

2x02- I've come to the conclusion Hannibal really doesn't care if he gets caught or not, he just wants to mess with Will. Copycatting the human mural and the promo for episode 3 are pretty reckless moves but he's clearly having fun.

Opening was pretty grim. :dread:

Favourite scene- Hello! I love your work.

There's an emote (I think from poopgang) where the little smiley dude is biting his lip trying not to laugh at a funny he's just made.

I basically imagine Hannibal doing that after basically every line.

It's strange how a show so dark, can have such LOL moments in it (both Hannibal and Will got some good ones today).

The meal today looked FANTASTIC as well.

I find that the most disturbing thing, Hannibal makes some awesome looking meals.

Was that Chianti he was drinking?

Found this on GAF, possible spoiler for a future episode if they get allowed to actually air it.

Is this a plea for HBO to come and pick it up before the Fox dead-time slot kills it entirely?
