Finished :(

Truly one of the best shows I ever watched. The ending was done well even though they had to leave "open" and the scene with scully :slol: :slol: :slol:

Brilliant brilliant stuff.

"This is all I ever wanted for you"

The red dragon plot was so well done, better than any of the films, imagine what silence of the lambs would have been like :x

Mason wad incredible in that season, had all the best lines  CORDELL!

In our rewatch We've just had our first introduction to margot and seen the horse killings.

Question. The guy who ate his own face, which film is he in? And is this set before Silence of the lambs? Or have the tv show producers stolen the ideas for killing from the film, or the book?
Im a bit confused as to the timeline, if at all they fit in with the films, or are even meant to?

Mason Verger appears in the film Hannibal. The order of the books and films are Red Dragon > Silence of The Lambs > Hannibal but the show mixes it up. All of the stuff in season 3 with Hannibal in Italy and Mason Verger is from the film Hannibal and in the show Red Dragon is set after that. The show would have done some version of Silence of the Lambs but it got cancelled.

Were they losing viewers during the second series and into the third? They really didn't help themselves with how dense parts of S3 were, but I do wonder if they lost more viewers due to some of those difficult to penetrate episodes.

The reports Ive read are the people were put off with the violence, some of it made me look away (the dragon biting off that guys mouth, verger eating his own face :slol: ) and thats why it got canned, I got lost a few times, but the programme quickly redirected itself so I grasped what was going on, the only thing I struggled with was the amount of characters coming and going/dying as they were all so well done.

I bet they'd have kept watching for 10 seasons if the show had stuck with the supernatural CSI-alike theme. :fp: Ingrates.

The ratings were on a continual decline throughout, the only reason NBC hadn't cancelled it sooner is because so much of the funding for the show came from overseas so it was really cheap for them.

Just finished season 3.....

Wow. An amazing series overall with 1 and 2 being perfect TV. Season 3 disc 1 was very slow and I really thought it had jumped the shark but then it got good and then very good and then holy crap this is amazing.

Easily the best version of Hannibal ever filmed, just so watchable and interesting.

Very moving in parts too.

So pleased I watched it all in one go and spoiler free.

Wish my image sig would work

I'm slowly working my way through season 3 and it's just building so fantastically. I've always liked Manhunter over all the other Lecter films so the fact I've now hit episode 8 makes it even better. They've lifted out so much from that film, it's brilliant.

EDIT: Is there any explanation as to why Lecter's cell is so ridiculously ornate?

I think if it being suplimented by his memory palace. I imagine it's not really that nice, although the place Lecter gets moved to in the silence of the lambs is quite ornate.

It's not his real cell, just what Hannibal sees (and an excuse to keep the set designers happy) They showed what it actually looked like a brief couple of times.

Probably part of Alana offering him niceties as a means to leverage Hannibal through his needs to be treated with dignity. That or because she wants to keep him sweet because of what really happened with Margot and Mason.

Yeah, Alana said pretty much that in the last episode I watched. Even referencing the threat to take away his books (can't remember if that was in Lambs or Manhunter)

Bryan Fuller is now apparently showrunning the new Star Trek show.

Just watched the season 2 finale, just strawberry floating wow.

I'd forgotten about the Abbigail reveal too and that she pushed Elana out the window.

It's an immense show. Would have loved to have seen where season 4 went.
