The player finds themself in control of Raiden, supposedly operating under a reformed FOXHOUND two years after the Tanker Chapter on April 29, 2009.

For a second there I thought that you were saying some new content unlocked in MGS2 today.

That would have been AMAZING!

Yes it is, but my copy is the original MGS2 not the extended "substance" version though.

My copy of Substance works fine on my PS3, although I prefer to play it on my PS2 due to my VR missions save being on my PS2 memory card and the lack of availability of memory card adapters.

The Big Shell is probably one of my most favourite levels/environments in a game ever, although I think I may be in the minority in that as most people cite the Tanker section of MGS2 as being far superior.

I suspect those who prefer the Tanker level is because they get the chance to play as Solid Snake.

Raiden is a decent character, only to be overshadowed by Solid Snake.

There are a-plenty of LOL moments in MGS2, and I'm sure that I haven't found them all.

My best moment:

I foolishly walked into the sight of an enemy solider and I rushed over to a door, which opens and I found a locker. I hide in there.

I bumped my head when looking out of the locker, thus alerting the searching guard. As soon he opens the locker door, another enemy soldier activates the sliding door and the searching soldier looked away. There I was, in plain open sight, hugging back of the locker.

And the searching guard follows the other soldier to resume the searching in another area. I breathe easily after that.

You are totally right there.
I hate Raiden, but almost in a loveable way. I rang Snake on the codec all the time.

Yes, tell me more about Dead Cell.
Where do you think the C4 is, Snake?
Do you like my soldier disguise?
Hey Snake, I just slipped in bird poo, do you have anything to say about that?
Look at me Snake, I'm in the ladies toilets
What do you think of cardboard boxes, Snake?
Snake, I've acquired a porn magazine
I'm in alert mode Snake, where should I hide?
I just saw a Ninja. It reminded me of you, because you're cool too
Snake, you can snipe, I'll just look at you through my sniper scope
Metal Gear RAY just dived into the sea. Are you going to dive in too? Of course you are.

You know what I'd love? An MGS2 where you play as Snake in the Shell. You'd get another boss battle and a reconciliation with Olga, I'd love to see the other side of events.

Edit: And you'd ideally be saving the game with Mei Ling, not that strawberry floating "Oh Jack, your room is empty, EMPTY LIKE YOUR SOUL!" Rose woman.

Shiiit... That is so weird thinking that (obviously... This is what the strawberry floating thread is about....) the Big Shell incident is set today. Oh my God.... That is so weird, I can;t get over it.

Wow. For a game that I invested so much into and have played so many times (probably about 13 times, maybe?).. That's just crazy to think it's set today.

Ignore me. :(

This topic made me smile.

I idolized this game, still do. Best game ever as far as I'm concerned.

I'd whip it out for a go only I'm up to the neck with projects and training at the moment. Can't believe it's almost seven years since I first set my hands on it. :(

In fairness, it's you that's calling him to talk about those trivial matters. It's hard to make conversation about other stuff when in that context.

I loved playing as Raiden, I'd happily play as him again so long as Snake is on codec elsewhere. MGS2 was Snakes finest and coolest performance, and I feel it was only enhanced by us playing as Raiden.

I accidently started the Big Shell scenario first, answering the questions at the beginning of the game wrong :fp: So as you can imagine, the twist of it starting after the tanker part wasn't so much of a twist for me after all.
Please don't let me be the only idiot that did this :fp:

Uh . . . What?

Time paradox! You must have borrowed a saved file or something.

Bloody hell, Em, if I were Snake I'd have turned the codec off! Talk about a clingy colleague!

Nah, man.
It asks you to agree with one of several statements at the beginning - stuff like, "I've played MGS and hate action" or something.
Clearly I picked the wrong one.

I never knew that. I know when you complete the game you get an option for Tanker or Plant, but I find that pretty hard to believe. Why would Hideo do that? :| :?:

I remember having to do that with my copy of MGS2, too.

Must have taken it out of the Irish version, for fear of players heads exploding in mind-boggling confusion. Amirite lads?!
