Obviously I was aware of how horrific WW1 was, but listening to Carlin talk about Verdun, the Somme and all of the other battles was just astonishing. I can’t even comprehend the misery that all of those people went through. Ghosts of the Ostfront was similar, just horrific.
I loved the one set Munster (I can’t remember the name of the podcast). Religion is crazy at the best of times, but that was just insanity.
My favourite podcasts though were the Roman ones. Death Throes of the Republic, Punic Nightmares and the Celtic Holocaust were fantastic and fit right in to a section of history that I love. I remember thinking this when I watched HBO’s Rome series, but it always amazes me the number of famous people that were living and interacting at the same period of history, Julius Caesar, Augustus, Pompey, Mark Anthony, Titus Pullo, Cleopatra etc.
