In that case "The Celtic Holocaust" might be up your alley. All about Julius Caesar (inventor of the Caesar Salad) in his early years as a Roman general.

I thought that I knew a bit about WW1, until Carlin taught me otherwise.

I think the Roman ones have been my favourites, although as I said all of HH is good.

Punic Nightmares
Death Throes of the Republic
Celtic Holocaust

Ah, that Juliuis Caesar. That sounds good. When I lived in Rome I became even more fascinated with that time period, so I'll give that one a go.

Yes that Julius Caesar, not this one.

Id say just listen to any of them, theyre all excellent. Even the smaller ones are very well researched and his style of speaking makes for great listening.

This new one is a bit of an indictment of humanity IMO.

I have not listened to the new one yet, although I think I can tell what it about from the title, but I think most of history is a pretty damning indictment of humanity.

This one is particularly bad.

I think the idea of people going to executions as a kind of spectator sport is horrible and apparently it drew crowds the size of good Old Trafford crowd. It's a bit horrible to think if they brought it back they could fill Wembly ever week with people who wanted to watch.

I love that four and half hours was one of his short episodes.

I have finished the new one, it is as excellent as usual but the subject matter :dread:

I don’t think people have changed at all really, as Carlin points out in the episode public executions never declined in popularity. If they brought it back, I think tens of thousands would attend. :dread:

I'd love to see Carlin tackle Vietnam. I think he'd make a genuinely great podcast.

I'd be more inclined to listen to more of these (heard the blueprint ones) if he didn't keep saying QUOTE END QUOTE every 5 seconds. You could probably chop an hour out of each one if you edited that out.

It'd probably take 5 days just to listen to it. ;)

There are so many areas that he could do a great show on. Vietnam is a good shout, the American War of Independence and the US Civil War would be fantastic as well.

I love the voice Dan does when he's talking about the err highfalutin intellectual types that really ought to be intellectually superior and look down on the lower classes and so forth

Vietnam one would be incredible, but it's such a big topic it'd probably rival Blueprint for Armageddon in length :dread:

I'd like to see him drill it down. 'Nam is my specialism, it's what I've written my PhD on and I love hearing other people's views on what happened, who was at fault, whether the war was justified etc etc. It's just so interesting(to me :slol: ) and I'd love an extended series in the style of some of his other stuff.
