After a lot of thinking I have decided to sell a lot of my retro gaming stuff and switich to emulators. Letting that stuff go will be hard and to be honest I do have some emotional link to my old systems because I grew up playing them but at the end of the day they are just objects and I have always kept the belief that there is always someone who will love it as much you I did if not more.

Anyway have any of you become emitionally attached to a game or a console?

Yes. Final Fantasy 7. I played it at a time where i had experienced a death in the family and so THAT moment had more resonance with me than most. That game has become lodged in memories for me, it will always remind me of that time. Ive played it pretty much once every year or so since it came out.

So I could never get rid of it. Id hate to think i could never experience the game again. (fingers crossed on the PS3 remake ;) )

I have got rid most of my games from the PS2/Xbox/GameCube era.

Only one GC game remains in my care: Skies of Arcadia Legends. No bloody way I will get rid of that. Also I've got all the PS1 Final Fantasy games. Dont think i'll get rid of them.

And I'm in a right mood to start up a decent collection again. :fp:

Motorstorm: Pacific Rift from all the good times spent playing it with the GR crew on Mondays, I know some people have ditched it, but it's staying on my shelf for good

Also Guild Wars, I've had an account for 5 years or so, I've made some great friends on it, had a lot of good times playing it too, I think it's kind of spoiled other MMOs for me, I can't play any other one (including WoW) without going "....its not as good as Guild Wars, is it?"

There are 2 things I will never part with:

- My GBA. So many great games and a battery that goes and goes. Ive been through several DS and PSP consoles and still come back to the Game Boy for some Gunstar Future Heroes and Pokemon.

- My Master System collection. Such an important part of my youth as it was the first console I ever owned. I can't wait until my son is older and I can show him the joys of Golvellius, Action Fighter and Zillion.

It's good to declutter. I famously gave away a ton of gaming stuff to one lucky forumite here on the 'cade. I have never regretted it. I've always been relieved I divested myself of a ton of baggage I had to trawl around after me every time I moved, etc. I'm still emotionally attached to games like Doom3, because it was one of the first games that truly impressed me, but even that I own now 'on the cloud' (Steam), rather keep any actual disks knocking around. I've moved ever-more deeply into virtual ownership of games. Just kinda seems to suit me better than filling plastic crates up with endless numbers of disk boxes.

I've flogged or chucked everything except my Dreamcast, which will always have a place by my TV
