Right I think I am going to get the second one. JL have dropped their price to £730 which helps me out although they have newer models now out. But there isn't many reviews flying around!

Think I have found my soundbar which I found for £275 in Currys or £269 in Richer Sounds. Cheaper than the £399 in JL or £323.99 at Amazon

What is everyone's opinion on Sony TV & Sound System

I was always previously of the opinion alot of money for not much substance but recently have been impressed by their TV's and some great reviews from friends, especially on the Sound side.

Judging by the reviews I have seen and the prices you can get online these days, also the metal build quality, thin bezels and stand design, good for gaming etc they seem to be a good choice. I am going for one when I have the money, unless some competition shows up.

I was going for a Panasonic but only one HDMI input and lower refresh rate. The Sony just looks better all round, actually cheaper too when I was looking.

I had the same impression before so didn't even look.

Sony tend to have a better picture but never great on sound.

I nearly bought a Sony TV but I would have gone for a different soundbar

LG release "car crash of a 4KTV":

The LG 49UB850V is not only the worst 4K TV we’ve tested, it’s also one of the worst-performing televisions we’ve reviewed to date in terms of image quality. Its subpar picture performance is made all the more difficult to accept by the display’s retail price of £1500. Sure, it’s 4K (even that’s not strictly true considering the significant drop in resolution with movement), but there exist many other critical elements of picture quality including contrast ratio, shadow detail and motion handling, and the UB850 flunked the majority of them.

Image-wise, the only two positive things we can say about the 49-inch UB850V is that its viewing angles are wide by LED LCD standards, and that bright scenes look fairly good in a room with a moderate amount of ambient light. If LG harbours aspirations of establishing itself as a premium AV brand, the company needs to quickly understand the importance of video accuracy before it can change public perception and be taken seriously by the videophile community. Maybe that’s why LG are the only manufacturer ploughing ahead with OLED TV (and we applaud them for it) – it’s almost as if they HAVE to, given the severe contrast limitations of IPS LCD panel.

Chaps, I’m in the market for a new TV. My budget is £500-£600. My requirements are:

-Must have smart functionality
-Full HD
-Freeview HD
-Must be able to stream media wirelessly from PC

As I am not terribly savvy when it comes to technology anymore, can you tell me if this is a good TV (the reviews I have read online all suggest it is and is very good value for money).

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-TX-L4 ... sonic+tx42

JL seem to have the same TV for £100 less with a 5 year guarantee:

It's very good but it suffers slightly from a slower refresh rate and response time than the current Sony's. Although Pannys often have stronger sound if you insist on using tv speakers. I've read a few reviews on the 32" set, can't remember much details but they were very positive.

Also the slightly newer Sony's have more HDMI ports (4 I think) , the panny has only 1 although you might get more on the larger panels so check that.

I read a super nerdy review concluding the Sony was the best bet for gaming this year due to the refresh rate and chroma subsampling which basically means better edges on stuff in the picture.

I probably should have included that this TV will sparsely be used for gaming.

How important is it for the TV to be more than 200hz?

I am after a new set as the 42 inch is looking really small in my living room since Ive moved places, seems like the only difference between different models is the Hz thing, but Im not too sure if its just a gimmick to justify the higher prices.

Im thinking a 55 inch.... what should I really look into, the TV will be mainly used for gaming and to watch footy.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

I have the 32 inch version of that Panasonic TV and it definitely has 2 HDMI ports, maybe 3 on the bigger ones.

Good TV too.

The E6, ET60 and ET61 have 3 HDMI ports. Although from memory some are on the side and some are on the back.

The difference between the ET60 and the John Lewis exclusive ET61 is the stand they use. Everything else is the same.

Is it a good television and is it worth £500?

Looking at getting a bigger TV for the front room so thinking that 50" is the way to go. I have a Sony Bravia 32" that's about 8 years old and I don't really have a clue when it comes to TVs. Is there one TV out there to rule them all that I should get above all else or do I have options?

So I got the above TV today and been messing about with it all night. Seems good and I think I'm happy with the picture settings I've currently set up. I definitely want to invest in some better sound though. Nothing to extravagant but something that'll give it a kick and make it sound better overall. Anyone got any recommendations for sound?

Does anyone on here use a 4k tv for their 1080p gaming? I've noticed they are coming right down in price now, and I like the idea of being a bit future proof (I tend to have TV sets for about six years or so).

I would be using it for PS4 gaming, Freeview HD watching, and Netflix 4k (with any luck).

How do the cheaper-end 4k sets handle current gen gaming?

(Just to be achingly clear here, I'm not expecting graphical improvements on my PS4, but what I don't want to find is that I have a TV that doesn't handle my current content very well. Ie as with SD consoles on HDTVs. Sort of acceptable but not great.)

This 50" 4k Samsung tv is now less than a grand. - but it is very much a budget set. Would I be better off buying a top-of-the-range 1080p set for the same dosh?

Can't really help with your question specifically as I have no experience with gaming on 4k sets, but I was tempted by that same screen just last week. However, one of the major criticisms I read online was that while still images were a beautiful 4k, as soon the the camera starts panning you're lucky to get 1k. Plus the set offers no blur reduction options, which sucks if that's your thang.

I think I'm gonna stick it out until this time next year and get a higher spec model for hopefully a similar price (if they keep dropping as they are).

I have the exact same TV and love it, but yes, the sound is gooseberry fool; an unavoidable symptom of these super slim TVs I fear. I got some Logitech computer speakers for just £30 for the TV and they work brilliantly! But of course you could spend £100 on a fancy surround sound system if you wanted to...
