Yeah, I couldn't mount that Sony one where I wanted, so I ended up going for this Samsung, which I think I'm in love with. The 3D was a bit of a bonus, as I wasn't really after that, but being able to make 2D films 3D is a brilliant feature. Watched Saving Private Ryan in 3D on Netflix on it.

Hi guys, I'm after a new tv looking to spend somewhere around £500 - £600.

I was going to go for the Panasonic TX-L42E6B 42 inch but the 34ms input lag has put me off a bit, is it an issue for a heavy hd gamer?

Any other tv recommendations welcome please? Sounds a bit silly but ideally would need at least 3 hdmi slots, not to fussed about 3d.

The Sony KDL42W653 seems rather good too but only 2 hdmi inputs, if I was to connect a sounds system to one of the hdmi slots but with 3 hdmi inputs on the sound system is this ok? It doesn't in any way diminish the hd quality of whatever runs through the sound system first does it?

Thanks in advance. ...

Wow that does look good!

My bro is currently in the market for a new set, around 50in with a budget of up to £1000 (3D not important).

I've recommended him the W656 Bravia set, but what are the main competitors to this model?

I accidentally knocked my TV remote into a full mug of coffee yesterday and now some buttons keep sticking, any ideas how to clean it without giving it a bath?

You could try using rubbing alcohol or white spirit as at least that will evaporate quickly and not conduct, but it will stink like hell.

Yeh if you can't be bothered to take the remote apart then just remove the batteries and then leave it submersed in cleaning alcohol/white spirit for a while. Stir it around every now and then. Leave it a while for it to evaporate before putting the batteries back in.

Best bet it to take the whole thing apart and then clean the insides and buttons with a cloth/kitchen tissue and alcohol.

I recommend alcohol so you don't get the smell lingering afterwards.

Not sure.

If gaming is important to your brother then the set I posted is one the best on the market (for the price) as it's got extremely low latency. Blurays also look stunning; watched Pacific Rim on it the other day haven't been that blown away by picture quality for some time. One caveat; the in-set speakers are gooseberry fool; mainly due the fact that the set is so thin. However, I found a very cheap and easy fix; got these and they sound great!

I was under the impression Plasma is the best for gaming.

Plasmas generally do have the lowest input lag making them best for gaming but Sony managed to make an excellent LED for gaming.

http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/input-lag Filter by 42" TVs and you'll see it's dominated by plasmas, but the Sony W653 LED trumps all.

The problem with those things, is I can't find any of them in stores :fp:
No one lists the model number, they just say "Sony TV 32inch etc".

Cheers, I bought it yesterday. It's a fantastic picture, I tested it out with Life of Pi. Only cost me £80 as I bought it off a friend for £280 and sold my smaller 42in LG tele for £200.

I'm looking at getting myself a small hdtv set for around £150-200. Was having a look at this;

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00B ... me-theater

or is it worth splashing out on a similar tv but with Smart?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00B ... me-theater

Is there anything better on the market?

Need a new tv, nothing amazing, just something that costs about £100 and has ports for pretty much everything, av, scart, hdmi, avi etc. Any suggestions would be great, I have a £50 amazon gift card but it doesn't have to be from there.

So I've changed my mind n a few things:
My budget is now £200.
I'm after a Tv that can do full HD, has a resolution higher than my current PC monitor (1440x900) and can do 60hz or higher. Size is not an issue. I'll be using this TV mostly for my pc and gaming.

My parents needs a new TV. Their current one is too big and barely fits in the house.

They're after a new 37" which will primarily be used for watching TV and playing films on. Can you get TVs with freeview or freesat recorders built in? How do you choose between LCD, LED or Plasma? Is Smart TV worth bothering with?

Their budget is about £600 - 800, I guess. They want to see what their options are at the moment.

Appreciate any advice.

Just had a look at the top 10 37 inch and top 10 40/42 inch TVs.

The 37 inch ones look so much worse. They all have old-school fat frames, unlike the 40/42" TVs, which are sexy as hell. Seems as though you get way better value for money in the 40-42" range.

I've now convinced my parents that a 40" TV would fit. So, please recommend some 40" TVs! Thanks.
