Sony's have the best picture quality? I thought they were LG panels with not much else added to them?

The processor is allegedly better. I’d say with the 2018 LG models this isn’t the case.
Paying a premium for that and an awful OS us not something I considered.

The Os for the LG oled is a thing of beauty.

As is the rest of it.

Looking around John Lewis at the weekend at all the pretty shiny TVs.

I wish I had a spare 2-3 grand :(

It's the X1 image processor that sets Sony's TVs apart from the rest.

What you're really paying for with Sony's OLED's is the design aesthetic and the sound, which emanates from the screen itself. In the A1 it's a waste of money if you have a soundbar/system, but on the new OLED from Sony you can pair it with a soundbar thus increasing the depth of audio further.

However, the response times for gaming are worse from Sony (the worst performer of the year from the big 4), you've got the Android OS, and the satellite works but the TV guide is broken for UK customers (LG comes with both Freeview and Freesat).

For me there's nothing on the Sony OLED range that warrants the £500 premium (even more if you want Dolby Vision support) over the LG equivalent. I don't know if Dolby Vision is being patched in later on their cheaper OLEDs, but it's not currently advertised.

Saying that, I still wouldn't buy an OLED TV because I know I'd be 'using it wrong'.

Not sure their pricing is very competitive though at £2,499 for the 55 inch model, even with soundbar. Missing Dolby Vision support but you do get their Ambilight technology, which I'm still yet to experience anywhere.

Been looking at the Sony AF8 65" today. It's a damned sexy set, though at £2,999 it's a bit more than I want to pay. Especially considering part of what you're paying for is the speakers being built into the display which is of no use to me since I already have a surround sound system in my living room where the TV is going.

Don't really want to look at the LGs as every LG branded product I've ever owned has been a pile of shite that more or less completely failed shortly after a year.
Might take a look at some of the Panasonic OLEDs though.

Will see if it gets anything off in the Black Friday or Boxing Day sales.

I’d keep an eye on the Sony website, they did a big cashback deal last year.

I generally look at Currys if they're at the same price as everyone else as I can get eVouchers for them instantly through work that are 8% off, so I basically save an additional 8% ontop of whatever money they knock off in the shop.
Will keep an eye on the website though incase Cashback is worth more than 8%.

If you’re after an oled and already have a sound system get an LG. B8 or C8 are better than the Sony. Forget any other experience you’ve had with LG.

Worth noting that Panasonic are using a relatively niche Smart TV OS called "Viera Cast"

Anything that isn't Android TV, Tizen or WebOS will most likely be defunct in a few years as app support drops.

Does any brand make 4K TVs with HDR and 3D? I can only seem to find one or the other.

I'm not bothered about the price, but ideally it wouldn't be any bigger than 55".

I don't think any TV manufacturers bother with 3D at all anymore.

yep, 3D is deader than corduroy.

You can get 3D via PSVR though.
