If you are willing to spend around £1000 again you may well be able to pick up a 4K HDR set, obviously not a top of the line one, but there are sets out there for less even.

DF did the following article on HDR sets for gaming not that long ago...

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digit ... hdr-gaming

I think this is the model they recommend for a mid-range point for HDR gaming...

Alien 3 is a right banana split for that, ramp the volume up for the dialogue then any hint of action and your sitting room sounds like the strawberry floating IMAX.

My Bravia has a "Night mode" on the sound options.
Compresses the audio so the quiet noises are louder and the loud noise quieter. Works a treat.

The 750 series are a more mid-range set, as I mentioned earlier the DX600's are very good and more in your price bracket.

Yeah, any if the big four are reliable TV brands. I'm a Panasonic man myself but you're pretty safe with whatever you pick. Aim to pick something from this years range though, that way you'll avoid anything out of date. All flat screen Panasonic sets this year start with DX in the model name.

Nope I think 50" is the smallest.

Its actually cheaper than £1000, £899 and you can get it from John Lewis with their 5 year guarantee.

If that's still too much then that article also mentions the DX700 as an option, which goes down to a 40" model, but the 50" is on a price match also at John Lewis for £699...

Not at all, LG are the only company really invested in OLED technology, which most people consider to be the future of TV tech. I don't think it's quite there yet, picture quality can deteriorate quite quickly, but while they last they're excellent.

When it comes to impressing with OLED they're the brand leader.

I think they are the only ones actually producing the panels, so yeah.

Also still a very long way out of most peoples price range, talking £2000 for the latest OLED from them.

Samsung have been good for a few years now.

Only issue you might want to be clear on is input lag and HDR. There's a really good midrange 4k Samsung set (its on that DF article) but if you want to run HDR you need to put it in cinema mode which is apparently terrible for gaming because of the lag it introduces.

Basically expanded colour/brightness range.

The standards are a bit all over the place at the moment, but I think HDR10 is looking like the most supported at the moment, not sure the TVs you are looking at support them fully. For gaming you'd either need to purchase a Xbox One S or PS4 Pro to support HDR anyway.

People who've seen it say its as much (or more of) an improvement over 4k on its own as 4k is over 1080p.

Yeah, HDR would obviously be a bonus but I don't think it's going to be available in your price range really Glow. Like H says, it's only really going to make any difference in the new upgraded range of consoles. A TV with low input lag would be more advantageous for gaming right now.

So maybe look at getting a really good 1080p led and not be too bothered about the 4k stuff?

Depends if you might get one of the new Xbox One S or PS4 Pro consoles at any time in the near future.

A mid range 4k set that has some HDR support is certainly in your price range.

Only if either of my consoles break. I won't be pro actively going out to buy one. Got a couple of weeks yet before we move in so I'll have a look around. Thanks guys.
