Please don't use any type of plasterboard fixings to hold a TV up.
Find the studs at the very least or it will be costly.

In theory, I like it on the wall. In practise, I hate looking up at the screen therefore I've always used a stand. It's just more comfortable on the neck, and less of a faff going round the back of the TV.

Always always always have the centre of the tv at eye level. This is how it will be going on the wall.

People who put them above fire places :dread:

It should be the top of the display as close to eye level as possible.

Also should be at this height for laptop screens and desktop monitors so you can see past them and focus on something in the distance to gie your eyes regular breaks (H&S) - that part doesn't apply to TVs on walls however as they're already at a distance.

Nothing worse than going to someones house and having the TV above the old fireplace  especially if the sofa is close up too :dread:

A mate got a new tv and mounted it so far up the wall that you had to look up while stood up :dread:

I felt like I needed my neck in a cast after watching a film there one night.

Edit: and yes Bido is right, it's the top at eye level.

So this 70" screen you're getting is going to be partly buried into the floor then? Or do you sit on bar stools at home? The top of my 42" TV is above eye level when we sit/lounge on the sofa, and that sits on a boggo standard Ikea tv unit, which is not at all high.

The sofa is low, admittedly.

Be buried in your face in a minute sunshine.

It'll realistically be eye level half way I think. Will probably measure it out in tape or something.

Urgh, the prices of these TVs are making me want to vomit up my own pelvis bone :dread:

65" screens are looking like being around £2500 for the kind of spec I want. Then in the screen size i want (75") it jumps to an eye watering £4500+ :dread: :dread: :dread: Add the bracket and paying someone to mount it and it would top 5 grand, which would be sickening.

I could go for a lesser spec and save what looks like a massive chunk of money, but then deep down i'd know I could have got better.

Truly the first worldiest of problems.

I caved and got the Panasonic TX-75EX750B from Richer Sounds this week.

It was listed as £2799.00 on Power Direct which I used to price match, so got it for £2779.00. That's over £700 cheaper than the major retailers. Plus I got 6 Years Warranty on it (5 through the Panasonic promotion, and the 6th year from Richer Sounds themselves). I think the Panasonic promo might be over now as it was for TVs bought before October, but if you're eyeing a Panasonic screen then you might get lucky.

Wish OLEDs were around in that size but not right now (I imagine another 1-2 years before they're similarly priced)

Now to get a new wall bracket. I'm looking at the "Ultimate Mounts UM126M"

I just dont think i can justify the £2k jump from 65" to 75", even though I really want the bigger set. I could almost get another 65" tv for that price :fp:

Really liking the look of this one, will probably be able to go and look at one in a shop too

Anyone bought from richer sounds before? They have the above 65" tv for the same price as John Lewis but with a 6 year guarantee. Also, there's a Samsung offer to buy a wireless sub, soundbar and uhd bluray player and be able to claim the cash back effectively making them free. That's independent of richer sound though, and John Lewis have the tv with the bluray player free anyway but id like the soundbar for free to tie me over until buying a proper surround system one day.

Edit: hmm, turns out its not quite the great offer it seems. You only claim some of the money back and you have to buy the bits all from the same qualifying retailer, of which John Lewis isnt one, but i've got a 6% JL discount through work, so will probably just buy from there.

We've also decided against wall mounting. The money spent on the mount and fitting will pay, most of getting a nice low unit for the tv and stuff that goes with it. The tv would send sound in to the wall and we're semi detached so theres that to consider, plus we'd still havebto get another until for the AV stuff to sit in anyway.

Yup I just bought mine from Richer Sounds and have bought my previous sets from them too.

They're good and will price match against stores who only offer the 5 year warranty but they'll include their 6 year warranty instead, on top of their price match and additional discount depending on how much you're spending (and extra £20 for me to beat the price I was matching against)

I bought my set from Richer Sounds. The only thing that annoyed me about the service was that they tried very hard to sell me their 'premium' HDMI cables. I ended up having to quite bluntly tell them I'd be ordering off Amazon for about £1.99 and they got a bit arsey, telling me that the image quality would be poor.

It's been a great TV though and it was the best price at the time.

For those thinking about dropping a couple of grand on an OLED TV, Rtings.com are doing an interesting on-going test for screen burn-in and degradation: http://www.rtings.com/tv/learn/permanen ... n-lcd-oled

It's not exactly good news for gamers who are looking at the value proposition and longevity of their televisions.

It's what put me off OLEDs for now. In theory they can match the contrast from Plasmas but you get stuff like this. Also the blue colour apparently has a terrible half life compared to red and green.

I wish they still sold Plasma

Seems you have to weigh up whether the imroved picture quality and overal uniformity is a worthy trade off for greatly reduced longevity. I suffered screen-burn in on my first Samsung LCD television in 2006 (I had left the menu screen up for around 20 minutes) and while it faded again over time once I saw it, that was basically the TV done with (it broke in the end anyway).

People having brightness issues with last year's LG OLED too; the firmware has killed some of the major benefits of HDR Gaming, though I wouldn't be surprised if LG has done it to try and mitigate screen burn.

At least the LG has really great response times for gaming; Sony's OLED doesn't even provide that as a benefit (it's higher than their 2017 LCD TVs).

OLED really does look amazing when you see it in-store though. I wouldn't say the difference is that pronounced, but it's definitely there. But you've got to ask yourself if it's practical when we're watching graphic-laden channels and games, not movies and slow motion glass making.
