Blue Planet 2 coming to iPlayer in 4K HDR on the 10th December 2017, for one month. List of compatible TVs listed here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/help/late ... net-II-uhd

Sony's premium televisions (such as the ZD9 and A1) from 2016 and 2017 are currently excluded, as are the PS4 Pro and Apple TV 4K.

Sky Q will get a 4K version, but the service doesn't support HDR.

Can it be downloaded or is it just streaming? My new tv comes tomorrow and it would be great to give it a try but I only have standard broadband so it won’t be fast enough to stream.

I’ve just been watching a few videos about how to best set up my new tv but one thing I’ve noticed is that they always seem to recommend that you turn off most of the features, eg motion plus, local dimming etc which makes me wonder what the hell is the point of all of them? I’ve read a few articles for other TVs and then seems a common trend.

New TV unboxed and set up late last night.

First impressions are, it really is strawberry floating huge but impressive, the OLED display is stunning and the wiimote style remote is cool even though I can't actually use it myself.

Haven't watched any 4K or HD content just yet (I've literally only just set it up) but SD stuff looks pretty good considering the size of the screen.

A lot of the features are designed to make SD or HD content look better, therefore unnecessary for native 1080p, 4K stuff or videogames. The Motion engines are an attempt to stop fast moving scenes from smearing/blurring. It can work reasonably well, but it tends to introduce an artificial look to the image (also known as the soap opera effect). It's to compensate for the fact LCD TVs were never as good as CRT televisions at fast moving images.

I've had my B7 for a week or two now and am incredibly happy with it. Easily the best AV purchase I've ever made.

TV and movies look nicer but the real showcase is gaming. I've gone from thinking my PS4 Pro was a pretty unnecessary upgrade to being really impressed with it. Assassin's Creed Origins looks phenomenal. I've got Uncharted The Lost Legacy which I need to try out as well.

Looking at that list for iplayer it seems my Sony KDXE9005 isn't supported :| strange as my Tv settings show it can do HLG and HDR10.

I'm hoping I just didn't check the list properly.

Edit- I've also found that some games won't go 4K even though it's supported, switching to 1080p as it boots up. I find myself having to switch off HDR to get it to register 4k, annoying having to change for each game even though PS4 pro is set to automatic detection.

Why don't you just manually set the resolution to 4K on the PS4 Pro?

Never thought of that, I wonder what happens to games that don't support 4k will it just default back?

The resolution setting on the PS4 is just the final output signal of the PS4. So 1080p games are upscaled by the PS4 to 4K.

There are a few games which have different modes depending on what you pick but most will be the same - the only difference being the final output image being down scaled if you choose 1080p and the game renders at higher than 1080p.

Long story short - just set it to 4K and forget about it.

I am now slightly concerned after hearing about OLEDs tendency to develop burn in/image retention, is this something worth worrying about?

Depends how much you play games with static HUDs or watch TV with static logos, really.

I think it's one of those things that current OLED owners will just have to be a guinea pig for, as a true representation can only be achieved in a real world setting. There is definitely an issue as rtings.com and others have shown when compared to an LCD (and I managed to bugger up a Samsung LCD by leaving a menu screen on there for 20 minutes) but in normal operation it may not be a problem at all.

I'd just use it as normal and try not to think about it. If in the future there's a load of complaints about, say, the Sky Sports logo ending up permanently on-screen then maybe we'll be having a conversation about how the tech is a bust.

I don't tend to leave the TV on unless I'm actually watching it, which is probably around 2hrs maximum on most days so it should be fine.

I seem to recall my Plasma getting burn in back on the day and it never really affected my enjoyment of it. You couldn’t really tell when watching other stuff.

The LG has a few things like an aggressive screen saver, pixel shift and a pixel refresher which should help, as well.

I don’t think it helps that people actively go looking for image retention by displaying colours and things which help it to stand out.

Has anyone using the B7/C7 had any issues with the sound randomly stopping from anything with an HDMI input? I've been messing about and I think I've found that the problem is going from Netflix or other streaming service back to an HDMI input and you have to make sure Netflix is closed in the home menu.

Other than that I've been blown away. The upgrade to this TV with the latest consoles has been as impressive as the jump groom SD to HD. Uncharted TLL is unbelievable.

Quite a few people on the AVforums were moaning about the sky sports logo.

I’d most likely end up buying the XE94. It’s costing £4000 but has the best performance in a TV when it comes to HDR. The A1 was tempting but I just can’t be bothered returning TVs after a few months.

One thing I noticed about the XE94 is that it's not a great performer with motion (visible trails on pans/blacks on whites), which I found really odd because all of Sony's other TVs this year are fine.

You do get used to it because I've had it on other TVs (very noticeable on football), but I wouldn't be happy knowing it's not happening on much cheaper Sony TVs (such as the XE93).
