I'm going to Comet/Currys to buy that very TV in the morning. It's slightly more expensive at £499 but I don't care. It has good reviews and is better than my current Samsung in that it has THREE HDMIs.

Okay so I didn't buy the Toshiba. I went in to Currys today and it looked like utter gooseberry fool. Really cheap looking plastic and truly awful SDTV performance.

So I plumped down £549 and bought a Sharp 1080p 32 incher instead. It looks amazing and works really well too:

They even included a full size screwdriver in the box! How awesome of them:

Is it really that bad? I never trust the pictures on TV in Currys because they run all the tv's from the same box or something so the signal is reduced.

I might go down and have a look for myself to see if it's that bad.

Well the Sharp which was sitting right next to it looked MILES better even though they were both showing the same image. Defintely worth the extra £50 to me.

Was it the Full HD one that you was looking at, I didn't know Currys even had those sets.

I'm talking about the one you didn't buy, I know there is another Toshiba 32" that looks similar but it's not full HD.

Yes, I compared them both side by side, both had 1080p on their little tickets and both looked like the images from the internet. Except the Toshiba looked like gooseberry fool.

Well the time has finally come, I've decided to buy a small HDTV for the bedroom but as I don't know anything about which ones are good/crap, I need some feedback on the following sets...

&

I'll also consider any/all recommendations. (I'm not really looking to spend more than £250 though, mainly because it's for the bedroom & won't get that much use apart from when I play the 360)

TBH I would not go for either based on the fact that both are 16:10 screens and therefore not considered to be true widescreen, which is 16:9. This is the problem I had when I got my first 360, I had to manually stretch the image via my vga cable when I noticed the ball in pes6 was not round!

IMO go for a 20 inch sony for around £250, it will be worth it in the long run.

The sony kdl20s3000 is a stunning tv, a bit above your budget, but you should be able to get it for less from other retailers imo.

Sony are bringing out their first OLED TV next year - I wonder how much it's going to cost?

Image

  • Unbelievably thin (3mm) display panel and slim stand weighs only 2kg
  • Thanks to OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) technology, individual pixels can be turned off completely when reproducing black resulting in an astonishing dynamic contrast ratio of over 1,000,000:1
  • Watch fast-moving images with incredibly smooth and natural motion thanks to OLED's rapid panel response in a micro second - over 1000 times faster than conventional LCD TVs
  • Light-emitting organic material and patented “Super Top Emission” structure achieve high brightness and colour levels and also reduces ambient reflected light for a superior viewing experience
  • With the wide viewing angle you can enjoy the crisp picture quality from almost anywhere
  • See the most vivid colours thanks to the XEL-1's combination of colour filters and micro-cavity structure
  • No more confusing menu screens thanks to our easy-to-navigate XrossMediaBar™ to browse all your TV functions
  • Two HDMI™ inputs (on rear, with CEC) make it simple to connect to High Definition sources such as Blu-ray Disc™ and PLAYSTATION®3
  • It's easy to use your TV screen to view your digital photographs with USB Photo Viewer
  • Watch digital TV with the integrated standard definition digital terrestrial tuner (MPEG-2, also receives analogue)
  • Watch cable TV with the integrated digital cable tuner (subject to country and with supported operators only)
  • Available to buy from Early 2009

I wonder how much of an improvement it really is over LCD & Plasma, apart from the obvious thinness. Any idea of a retail price?

Anyone know why none of the big retailers are selling the Sony E4000? It's only available in Marks & Spencer (of all places).

I haven't seen one solitary review either, & the ones that are from users are like 3/10! Only problem being they're in German. Is there something drastically wrong with the TV or something?

Bloody hell consolegaming, theres nothing wrong with 16:10 through HDMI. You can letterbox, and the Samsungs don't stretch the image, they just cut the ends off. :fp: .

If you can justify the expense, Sarge, get a Sony. If you can't, get a 19" Samsung. They're really quite snazzy.

The Sony KDL-26V4500 is supposed to be a fantastic TV. My Uncle is looking for a new TV, so I think he'll probably go with this one. It's only available in Sony Centre's & Sony Style, & it is expensive, but this really outshines the 26V4000 which is available in shops. I find it hilarious how Sony have launched an inferior TV (it only came out this month) to the masses, & kept the better one (which came out in June) to Sony stores.

The people on the AV forums seem to think it's great, & the reviews have been practically full marks. One of the best 26inch TVs available.
