Does anyone know if the Amazon Prime player app on 4K tv's gives the ability to steam or download content in 4K or do I need the dedicated box again?

If you have decent broadband and it should be fine, as I have no problem with BBC iPlayer UHD 4K on my TV.

Oh good.
I have 10 free UHD rentals from Rakuten as well as part of the tv offer so I'll make use of that as well :toot: .

There's not much 4K content yet though, I don't think there's any films in 4K included with Prime.

I'm actually quite impressed with the built in player on my screen. I usually don't bother with the built in apps but this one I can stream videos with a lot of different codecs with no issues, including 4K video that even my fairly beastly PC can't play without stuttering.

Aside from The Grand Tour and a couple of other things I've already seen there's nothing else I'd even consider watching, plus there doesn't appear to be any films included in their paltry offerings.

The only real consolation being you don't have to pay extra for the 'privilege' unlike Netflix whose 4K selection is equally underwhelming.

My new TV will be delivered tomorrow between 2 and 9 and I'm super excited.

I will soon witness for myself the pure awesomeness of UHDTV and HDR.

FFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!

Replacement TV has a horizontal black line all the way across the screen.

FML

Edit: thinking of exchanging for something like this:

Its not OLED but seems to review well.

That's really unlucky. Not heard of dead pixels being a problem with these TVs, but apparently there aren't that many of them about now.

That Sony is the other TV I was looking at when I went to get my OLED, it's supposed to be great, but in the end side by side I decided to go with the LG.

I know quality control this past year has been appaling across the board but blimey, talk about bad luck.

The XE93 is comfortably the best LED TV from Sony this year. Not only is it significantly cheaper than the 94, its handling of motion is superior as well. It’s basically the same as the XD93 from the year previous (which I have) but with better HDR and without the dodgy power board (which Sony have held their hands up to and will now fix free of charge for the next 5 years should it die).

Now down to £580, going to have a look at one today. Lots of very positive reviews.

Came on here to ask about this tv. I can't go bigger than 49", and I was looking at the 49mu7000 but it only has a 60hz refresh. The LG is much cheaper and has better specs.

Very close to pressing go.

Me too. Looked at it in John Lewis but wasn't massively impressed by the picture as it looked dark compared to the Samsung it was next too. But that was obviously setup with ridiculous contrast settings. I saw an 810 in Currys which is essentially the same tv and that looked really nice. It's 10 bit HDR (8 + something or other), is rated as ultra HD (whatever that means) and is a 2017 panel.

I bought the 800, it's arriving next Saturday. The reviews are positive so I'm sure it'll be grand with the right set-up.

The price/features are exactly right for me.

I do really like the LG and would be tempted to try a third one but I'll always have that lingering doubt about the screen going tits up at some point.

I've looked at both the Sony and Panasonic OLED offerings but can't justify spending that much on a TV so will just have to compromise and go with a non OLED option.

The only issue I have with with the Sony XE93 is the Android OS, it just sounds a bit meh.
