Oh I got the Panasonic Ub 700 player as well for 195 from Richer Sounds. Got a good review. Just got to treat myself to some nice UHD blu rays now.

UHD Blurays are ridiculously priced at the moment, I intend to replace around a quarter of my current BluRay library with UHD versions but it'll take a while as they're too expensive to buy in large quantities.

I have over 150 Blurays, I'll only be upgrading the ones I'll watch several times.

I'm watching quite a few on ebay at the moment. They are prohibitively expensive at the moment. I think Planet Earth 2 is a must and Blade Runner 2049 and Dunkirk. Probably Fury Road as well.

We recently got rid of all but the very favourite blurays we own. You just amass them and they're expensive enough which is gooseberry fool if you only watch them a couple of times.

We've decided only very special stuff like star wars (if it ever comes out) will be getting bought on UHD, otherwise we'll just stream.

There will be yet another format after this and the cycle will.continue.

I was going to get Terminator 2 until I saw that it was just the theatrical version.

Sony's new replacement for the A1 OLED in 2018 - the AF8 (though they're saying it sits just below the A1, so it'll be cheaper): https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/tele ... EDIBLY-AF8

They've added a stand, a thin bezel at the bottom, and it no longer tilts back as much.

Good plan. I will probably buy a few UHD's to justify the X1X purchase but in all honesty things look so good anyway that I doubt I'll notice the difference. I've had the LG C7 installed for over 4 weeks now and I still can't believe how good it looks. I'll never be able to go back to £500 Tv's.

Bloody lovely isn't it? I'm glad I didn't succumb to the B7 with the silver bezel.

It really isn't noticeable at all, though I guess it might depend on the room you have it in.

Personally I prefer the crescent stand to the flat one on the C7. Otherwise its the same amazing TV.

You're right it is hardly noticeable. I actually thought I was looking at the C7 when I saw it in the shop. I just prefere the all black bezel, we decided we'd rather pay the extra £150 to get exactly what we wanted.

The stand is odd and the fact that's it's silver (aluminium) would be a bit rubbish for anyone who has bought it for the same reason. Ours is wall mounted so isn't an issue.

OLED on a budget - Hisense announce their first OLED TV for the UK

The Chinese giant announced their new line-up of LED LCD TVs at CES 2018, which includes the U9 with its full array backlight of 1,000 dimmable zones, a peak brightness of 2,500nits and a wider colour gamut that apparently reaches 90% of Rec.2020. Hisense now also plan to release a 4K Ultra HD OLED TV in the UK towards the end of this year.

The new OLED will support HDR10, HDR 10+ and Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG). Hisense have also announced their latest smart platform which includes Freeview Play and integration with Amazon Alexa for full voice control.

Sony has revealed that their A1 OLED will remain their flagship OLED TV for 2018, alongside the ZD9 LCD. Instead the A1 will be joined by the AF8. This new 4K Ultra HD TV has all the same picture features as the A1 with the X1 Extreme Processor, Acoustic Surface, Wide Colour Gamut (WCG) and support for High Dynamic Range (HDR10, Hybrid Log-Gamma and Dolby Vision via a firmware update). The difference is in the form factor, with the AF8 dropping the easel stand of the A1 and using two woofers rather than one larger one. The AF8 will be available in April in screen sizes of 55 and 65 inches.

Minimal improvements from Sony for 2018, then. Despite the AF8 apparently sitting under the A1, the A1 will most likely end up being cheaper because of continued discounting.

Got he 4K blu ray player from Richer sounds. Got Fantastic beasts and where to find them with it, too.

I know it's been a topic of discussion here but you don't have to buy ludicrously priced HDMI leads do you? Aren't they all basically of a standard?

A normal HDMI 2.0 cable will be fine, or the one provided in the box with SkyQ, PS4 Pro, Xbox etc. Don't spend any more than £15 on it, if that.
