Decided to watch some planet earth 2 uhd last night as I forgot we had it and we've never finished it. Looked great but not as amazing as it did and it turns out the bluray player has decided to stop outputting hdr :| Its still active on all inputs, I've restarted the player, reset it's settings and that. I tested the other inputs with the ps4 PRO and HDR still works beautifully, it works via Netflix, Amazon prime etc.

Very strange. I don't use the player very often at all but it's always outputted hdr no problem.

So I’m baffled why my tv isn’t supported by iPlayer 4K beta. I have a good TV. Sony Bravia XE9005. Which is a decent model from 2017. Looking at the list of supported Sony TV’s I see older models are supported and some from 2016, but not the full range. Why such inconsistency? Gutted I couldn’t watch World Cup in 4K

I don’t know what’s going on with Sony’s TVs. My TV isn’t supported despite being a top end model from 2016, and the A1 OLED, which is still their best TV, doesn’t work either.

I’ve been using the PS4 Pro, which has been updated with 4K iPlayer (but not HDR). There’s an issue with the colours though being dulled, but it can be corrected by changing the TV mode to Standard rather than Cinema/Game.

Never thought to access iPlayer through ps4pro. Shouldn’t have to though. The iPlayer beta support all kinds of garbage cheap 4K Tv’s but Sony has a very hit and miss selection

Sony for your console. LG for your TV.

If I could buy a PlayStation made by another company, I would. Sony make utter shite consumer electronics.

My current set is very old and it'd be nice to get a newer one. But... it just feels that buying a TV is a minefield at the moment. I'm particularly concerned about the smart features (apps and viewers) as they sound a bit unreliable and slow. My long-standing gripe about the low number of HDMI connectors on anything under 50" still seems to be pretty valid, too. In the past I've bought Sony TVs but both these issues appear to apply to their new sets.

I guess I'll stick with my old screen for a while yet.

Jawa, don't buy a Sony TV.

My previous Panasonic was so much better in terms of user friendliness and faster loading apps, the only real advantages of my current set are the size and 4K capability.

I would have kept the LG OLED but I wasn't too happy with the fact that the screen was so easily damaged/unreliable.

I don’t think the screen is that unreliable. Certainly not in the last couple of years.

I must have been unlucky to get two damaged TVs in a row but I felt that I must have looked like an idiot repeatedly ringing up asking for a replacement so decided to get a different set entirely to avoid the hassle.

Stupid thing is the Sony one ended up costing me more than the LG one, or would have done if they hadn't messed up my refund.

Watched the WC Final and it's the first time I've watched something in 4K on my TV. I've never seen grass look so good :datass:

How did that Android P update work out for you?

Does it run any quicker?

The Home menu is no different in terms of speed. If anything the Action Menu now lags worse than it did before when taking a 4K feed.

You can now mess about with HDR with all sorts of advanced options should you so desire however.

Also noticed Sony doesn’t have a 4K video store available like they do elsewhere, neither is the PlayStation Store on the TV (or Pro) offering movies in 4K. Another strange omission.

I keep getting spammed by eBuyer with emails about Finlux 4K TVs at very attractive prices - I've never heard of them so I presume I'm right to assume that they are probably terrible and I should ignore these offers?

Yes. Only budget brand ever worth looking at is Hisense. The rest are suitable only for the skip.

Having hooked my TV up directly to satellite I noticed there are 2 Ultra HD channels broadcasting free-to-air: ASTRA UHD and SES UHD. Neither are showing anything of real note (fashion, extreme sports, various lush locations...Oooooooh, water falls) but it looks fantastic.

Also noticeable improvement in picture quality overall (particularly CNN HD) compared to through a Sky+HD or Freesat box. RT HD also looks sublime but bollocks to watching that.

Sony have a piece of software for PC and Mac (Sony Channel Editor) that's a godsend for deleting and rearranging channels into order. There is also A LOT of international porn.

Downside? The TV guide is broken, and only populates Now and Next sporadically (seemingly after only viewing the channel). Infuriating half-arsery for the UK market.

How often do Sony patch their TVs? Seems to be a weekly thing
