Watched Fellowship of the Ring on Blu ray. Mmmmph.

Love this telly so much. I can't wait to get home to it every day at work.

Don't love it too much, man batter in the HDMI socket will break it.

Or so I have been told.

Was literally scrolling down to post that.

I think we need to add it to the thread title, tbh.

Stop being mean to Denster. He probably had to scrimp and save for years to be able to afford his nice new TV. It’s not like he got a tax rebate windfall and then spent weeks posting about it is it?

Get Geldof on the phone, we need a Denny fundraising single.

It's 4k time. There's no need for standard def.

Denster pls respond. Have you had the chance to try out the UHD dark knight yet? Curious if there's that big a jump over the bluray we already have. One of the few I think we'd buy again.

UHD seems a fairly mixed bag picture wise, some stuff looks bloody amazing (Blue Planet II) whereas other stuff just looks like a slightly clearer 1080p image but otherwise not mind blowing.

Having said that however I have only watched a few things in 4K as I got the TV a while before I had any 4K content to watch on it

Blue Planet II - stunning
The Grand Tour (Amazon streaming) - looks slightly better than 1080p but takes strawberry floating ages for 4K to kick in
The Martian - Martian landscape looks really good but again not a massive step up from 1080p
Kingsman - CGI sticks out like a sore thumb, looks alright elsewhere.

Not really missing the LG OLED image wise as the black levels on the Sony set are decent, I do however uttterly loathe the Android OS and Youview is total wank.

It's a mixed bag because not all UHD discs are actually mastered in 4K. The Martian in particular is a weird disc because it switches between 4K and upscaled 2K throughout the film. For some reason.

Deepwater Horizon looks amazing.
Inception is decent but they used the blu ray master so its prettier but not mind blowing.

John wick looks fantastic.

Treating myself to the TDK trilogy on payday and Blade Runner on 5th feb.

Have you tried Sony's own EPG? You need to turn YouView off first though I think, if I remember correctly.

I thought Sony's EPG was really good for satellite but unfortunately the guide doesn't populate properly in the UK, and Sony refuse to pay the license for Freesat like LG, Samsung and Panasonic.

At least there's Freesat 4K boxes coming later this year/early 19 which hopefully will be good.

The LG OLED's 55" and 65" B and C models have gone back up in price to 1799 and 2799 respectively. 300 quid increase for both. Seems a bit strange. Glad I bought when I did.

Wishes he'd waited so he could pay more for it, IMO.

This joke is just going to run and run isn't it?

I was actually just curious as to why they'd go up in price.

Oh BTW - AD7. The Dark knight is definitely worth the upgrade.
