Does anyone know when we can expect to see reviews of this years bunch of new TV's as I've decided that this is the year I'm going to upgrade as I have a Pro so have a 4k source.
I'm at the moment leaning towards the mid range QLED as a set with good picture but that's hopefully cheaper than my beloved OLED which is still too expensive for my liking. I'm going to have a budget of about £1k so certainly not high end but enough for something pretty decent.
One thing I am sure of is that the size mustn't be over 55 inches as it's for my bedroom and even a 55 inch set is pushing it a bit and any bigger would just be bloody stupid.
I'm not bothered about the design and really don't see the point in shelling out a premium just to have an ultra thin TV.
I'm even willing to go with a manufacturer that isn't part of the normal bunch as Hisense had a very well reviewed set last year and if they can upgrade that set and have it priced keenly I'm all in.

I just need a set with great HDR and 4k picture and sound that isn't tinny gooseberry fool and I don't care what it looks like for about £1k.

You'll probably start seeing reviews from around March and then throughout the course of the entire year. No website reviews all the TVs in one go. For reviews you'll want AVForums, HDTVTest, rtings.com (product names can be different though), TechRadar and T3.

Would like a bit of advice from anybody in the know about these kinds of things...two questions really.

1) My Samsung TV has developed 4 separate grey patches on the screen. It started out as one, and has gradually increased over the last few months. They're there all the time, but are more noticeable against certain colours, etc. I have a 5 year guarantee (bought the TV in 2013) with Richer Sounds - does anyone know if this would be covered, or does it come under the similar category of dead pixels etc? I understand some manufacturers/shops don't deem those to be their problem.

2) Having only ever relied on Freeview and my 360 for watching stuff, I'm looking to get something that ideally has: Blu-Ray player, DVD player and a Freeview Recorder. I found this: http://www.tesco.com/direct/samsung-bd- ... rce=others but it hasn't got great reviews (sounds good initially, but subsequent firmware updates seem to have borked it, from what I've read on other sites). I've tried looking for similar products, but they seem to be a bit old hat now - is that the case, and if so, what's the best alternative?

Can't help with 1 but suggest you ring them up and find out.

With 2, my advice is to save your money and get a regular Blu Ray Player and just rely on iPlayer/ITV player/4od/5od for catch up services and if you want to download something for a permanent copy, get it on the high seas......and chuck it on external hard drive and plug back into TV to watch.

Looking at buying a new TV as my current 30" LG is a good 6-7 years old and want a larger one in our new lounge.

Seen this one - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01LYHIZR3/

Would basically be used to watch TV and play the PS4 on. Any recommendations - looking to spend about £400.

Have a look at the co-op electrical Ebay store as they have 20% off everything but a max of £50 may get a slighty better TV.

I've been looking at the Samsung KS7000, but noticed it came out around June last year. Would there be a replacement for that coming in the next few months? I've tried googling but Samsung 2017 TVs just seems to bring up articles about their high end sets that cost a good few grand.

I'm in almost the same situation, with the exact same TV. TBH, I'm hoping it gets replaced soon so it comes down in price. Looks like the ideal telly for me, just £200 too expensive.

To answer your question, I think the new stuff usually comes out around April/May time.

I too am sailing in a similar boat.

It seems the successors to the KS series are out in Germany at least.

For some reason model numbers in Germany are often different to the UK. Blame Brexit or something.

That's not really the successor to the KS7000 though, that's a TV further down the range that offers similar performance (presumably with updates) to what the KS7000 offered last year.

This year Samsung have introduced QLED which has upped their prices. Basically QLED is just the next generation of Quantum Dot technology that was in the KS series. The TV in that range that is actually equivalent in terms of where it sits in relation to the other TVs Samsung offers is the Q7F. Its just a lot more expensive at the moment. The 49" KS7000 launched at £1299, the 49" Q7F is £1999.

http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/tv-and-hom ... 6-pdt.html

If you are talking about a TV that offers similar specs that is further down the current range, that probably would be the MU7000, that TV has launched at similar prices to the KS7000 did last year (so £1299 for the 49" version).

http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/tv-and-hom ... 0-pdt.html

Basically if you are looking for either of these TVs to push the price of the KS7000 down, it seems unlikely.

This is pretty much the worst time to buy a TV, though you may be able to catch the ultimate bargain on last year's stock just before they're removed from sale.

First price cuts are in the summer, usually for Wimbledon, World Cup, Euros etc; then you're looking around Thanksgiving where they'll knock around £400-500 off and sometimes throw in a soundbar too. Christmas roughly the same. Final discounts come in January/February, where upto £1000 can come off.

March through to around June is the early adopter phase for whose who must have the latest set as soon as it launches.

Are there really people who buy a new tv every year? I get that some people with a lot of money may get bored and replace it every few years but yearly just because there's a slightly new colour technology or something, I just don't get.

I suppose it's like people that upgrade their phones every year, but with considerably more hassle selling it. If you buy a TV at launch, and then sell it a year later, you should get about 50% of its value back...which actually isn't that great when you think about it.

If you've bought a good TV, it's going to be in the Top 5 most expensive items you ever purchase alongside a car, computer, possibly a sofa and, well, the house itself.

To me a TV is the type of thing you buy and then don't think about again for at least 5 years.

I've just noticed that Sony's 2017 line up includes Full HD TVs that support HDR.

https://www.amazon.de/dp/B06WWF8Z1L?ref=emc_b_5_t

So you can have the benefits of HDR without the expense of buying a 4K TV. Which seems like a good idea.

When are the 2017 Sony/Panasonic (I assume they are still the best two brands?) released?

My TV looks like it is on the way out and so I might be in the market for one soon.

I have a new 2017 Panasonic 4K UHD HDR TV and it's brilliant. I bought it last month from the Panasonic Store and if you want to know more details, just letting me know. :)

Cheers. The 2017 Panny's are already out then?

That's good to know, my TV should hold out for another month or so which will give me some time to get some money together for another one.

I am still on a 720p TV that I bought for the Xbox 360, I am actually looking forward to it breaking properly so I have an excuse for a nice new one.

Yeah, the new 2017 sets are available except the OLED ones and they will come in soon.
