No the biggest they have is 65 inch and those are on the wall displays. Those make me laugh too, oh look how much more vibrant this technology is!!!111 Well yes the one above has the brightness on max and the colours set to vivid while the one on the bottom has the backlight right down and the contrast on next to nothing

jamcc - what's your max budget? Or would you be happy to go for a slightly smaller screen?

The only good thing a shop is for and they can't even demonstrate their products I'm always wary of the picture quality because their video sources are terrible and the TV settings are configured by morons.

I wonder if John Lewis will have the sets, I could try there but it's a bit of a drive to my nearest store.

Out of interest, what set are you looking at? I'd it a 75 inch?

Yeh Panasonic brought a 75" LCD out this year by the looks of it and I wanted to see if I find LCD acceptable before parting my money (I'm currently Panasonic Plasma and tend to find LCD washed out)

Unfortunately Panasonic OLEDs seem to go up to 65" right now, maybe next year they'll be a 75" OLED and if I'm not happy with the LCD panel from this year I'll probably see what next year brings.

Nice. Yes you definitely have to see these in person to be dropping this kind of money on them.

I always find it funny how much time we as people spend on these kind of purchases... but houses you walk in and can't wait to get out from the house tour same for car purchases too (at least for me) I tend to drive it once and just buy it.

Yeah I was going to buy it until I saw the HUKD comments about it being a rebadged TV with a £100 premium.

To be honest, I'm not sure what my budget is. I'd happily pay £600ish for a good (Ultra HD?) TV which will last or around £400 for a 1080p TV. As for size, I've kind of got used to my parents' 55" TV so I'd like one that size or near enough.... Maybe 46" minimum?

The problem with TVs is there are sooooooo many different models and the reviews are always of £1500+ TVs which no one can afford. It's almost like Top Gear reviewing cars.

Keep an eye on Rtings.com - they usually review everything bar the budget model from Sony, Samsung and LG.

Actually, the specs on the 49" LG 49UJ634V seem a lot better - see here. Are you sure the Samsung is a better deal?

I'm not able to look myself at the moment, but on a general observation, LCD LG teles tend to be the worst out of Sony and Samsung in terms of picture quality .

Thanks yeah. Was reading that Rtings site and they leave no doubt that the Samsungs blow the LGs away, even though the LG I was comparing the Samsung to looked like it had better specs.

My last question would be whether it's worth paying £30 more for the Samsung 50MU6120 at Argos instead of the 50MU6100 at Curry's? What's the difference?

Edit - seems like the 6120 is the 6100; the specs are the same. Are Argos just mongs or are they trying to trick people into thinking it's a superior model?

The TV doesn't appear to be listed on the Samsung website or stocked anywhere else but Argos. It's probably what is known as a Warehouse version. Same TV but with a few cosmetic tweaks (such as the bezel or stand). It also makes comparing prices difficult.
