I've a sneaking suspicion that my very old 2nd tv (one of those HD Samsung CRT) is about to break. Though it might need a helping hand :shifty: That would mean relegating our main tv and getting a new one for the lounge. So, what can i get for up to £500 that'll make my PS4 Pro look sweet? Nothing bigger than 49", current tv is 42" and that was a struggle getting it past the missus (phnarr, yak yak etc).

At 40" is a 4K TV worth it?

We're getting a new TV and agreed on size, money isn't important but there's a Samsung 4K TV and a Sony 1080p TV.

I also have a preference for Android TV as I now have an Android Phone, Google Home and, frankly, I find Samsung's Tizen a bit on the ugly side.

Not all of Sony’s televisions at the cheaper end of the spectrum use Android TV.

Denny 55" isn't big enough, go for 65.

Hopefully this will be the end of the saga.

Turns out a friend of mine works for John Lewis and can get me a staff discount.

The hits just keep coming.

It’s a grand less for the 55” one.

If 65” is too big then there is only one solution.

You will need to get an extension built on your house.

Good.

Honestly, Smart TVs are mostly a load of old shite. If you compare Android on Sony's TVs compared to the Nvidias Shield TV box then the difference is night and day largely because Sony have to try and support a massive number of TVs while Nvidia can focus on their handful of devices so you get a far better experience.

I'd love if someone like Samsung or LG acknowledged this at CES and released a TV with a remote that just switches between the HDMI inputs and controls the volume.

My girlfriend's brother is in the market for a new set and £1,000 is the upper end of his budget, though ideally he would want to spend less than that. Given his viewing distance I reckon 55in is about the right size, perhaps smaller if the set is great.

Does anyone have any experience with the Samsung QE55Q6F? It's the entry level to the Q series and seems to be quite heavily discounted - £999 down from £1,799 at Richer Sounds.

Alternatively, I see that the Samsung UE55MU7000 is going for £849 down from £1,399. I've not seen either in the flesh yet so would be great to gauge some opinions.

I wonder too whether these pre-Christmas discounts are likely get beaten by the post-christmas sales?

Unless he desperately needs a new TV before Christmas I'd suggest waiting for the sales to start.

I bought the UE55MU7000 for £799 in the black Friday sales. Great TV. Don't be put off by some reviews complaining about the poor viewing angle as it uses a VA panel. I have no idea what they are talking about. Going by some of the reviews I thought it was going to be like the old Lcd PC screens that were Un viewable when you stepped to the side.

I can also give a wtf opinion about the viewing angle complaints. They say the q7f is gooseberry fool for it, but there's barely any difference when viewed from anythingbut an extreme angle.

Indeed, one review from a very well respected technology website (I can’t remember which) said something along the lines of ‘unless you are going to be sat straight in front of the tv at all times, this is not the tv for you’. I swear some of the reviewers have something wrong with their eyesight. Same goes for hearing as well and their obsession with sound bars.

The Sony XE9005 is supposed to be pretty good. For under £1000 only the 49" model is available (£949 from Co-op Electrical), the 55" I think is available somewhere else for £1079.
