Rtings.com have just reviewed a Hisense TV (H9E Plus) yesterday; fairs pretty well:
https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/hisense/h9e-plusLike the Sony sets, it's running on Google Android.

I've been keeping track of Hisense over the last couple of years can really see them mixing it with the big boys and hopefully at a better price.

It's really annoying, I've not seen that film and i know i wont want to watch it more than once, so im not going to buy it, but i want to watch it in 4k HDR, but nobody i know has it so i cant borrow it. Streaming bastards
I'm having a proper first world problem at the moment, I'm planning on treating
myself me and the wife to a Dolby atmos setup. I've been looking at soundbar + sub setups as the doors on either side of the room would make putting up rear speakers a real pain in the arse, so a soundbar would be more suitable. Only thing is, the stand the tv uses perfectly takes up the unit top it's on in a V shape, so I can't put one there. The one I'm looking at is 8.3cm tall, so even if I put little feet on either end to sit it above the stand, it'll then be poking above the bottom of the tv and block the IR receiver. I've got an old surround system, but it's a cheap one that needs the DVD player (:dread:) plugged in to work as the amp. Plus it's gooseberry fool.
My setup (the state of the cables):
So I've got no way to have what I want fml. Anyone got a workaround? (preferably not mounting a speaker above a fireplace or on the arm of an L shaped sofa k bbz).

Would you be prepared to top-mount the soundbar, like this:
That might not work with a thin tv and a heavy speaker, though. You could install a shelf above the TV, maybe? It'd give you the height that Dolby Atmos is meant to deliver.
I have to be honest, if you're going Dolby atmos, I have reservations about whether a soundbar would really cut it on its own anyway. I've never really experienced a single speaker that
genuinely does surround, tbh.
We have our two rear speakers on thin stands behind the sofa, so not sure if that'd be an option for you?

Doesn't an Atmos soundbar have to be in a position to fire the top speakers off the ceiling, which wouldn't be possible if it was wall mounted.

Yes, a proper one has a bank of angled top speakers to bounce off the roof as well as front and side firing ones.
This was (and I emphasis was) the one I was looking at
https://www.johnlewis.com/samsung-harma ... r/p3713325Turns out things like that one above only do atmos etc through HDMI, so say Netflix adds it, then I can only get it by passing through a single source. Sounds like more hassle than you'd think.
Poser - yes that's the setup I was originally aiming for (and what I currently have with the older system although it's in the loft now). Thing is, with the way the room is, the cables would all have to be routed around the skirting and doors, which is a pain, whereas the soundbar is just sitting on the tv cabinet (well it would be
). I could bring myself to have one mounted on top of the tv, it would look awful. The other downside to separate speakers is you need an amp, which is yet another thing to be in there whereas a soundbar is self contained.
strawberry float that V shaped stand. Stupid sexy stand.

What kind of budget are we looking at?

Can you not mount the speakers above the door frame?
I've got some KEF eggs above mine with trunking down where the 2 walls meet and looks nice and neat.

Budget - I've got £500 worth of credit I can redeem at a few retailers like John Lewis, currys, Amazon etc so that's the base amount, but I'd stretch to a thousand so I'd effectively only be paying half out of my own money (dat Ad7 rationalisation).
And yes I can mount above the door, it's just that the rear speakers will be to the side rather than actually behind which I know from experience isn't as good.
It appears from a brief look that separate speaker systems only come with a bluray player as the amp, which I don't need as I've already got one.

After saying I wouldn't buy the above, I'm about to order the above
Its £200 cheaper from today which sold it, plus I can pick it up from down the road.
The reviews make it sound amazing, plus I've remeasured and there is room in front of the tv, I just need to make or buy a.couple of rubber feet to put on each end so it clears the stand. Apparently it uses the HDMI arc to control the tv and vice versa so blocking the ir receiver isn't an issue (plus I tested by blocking it and once ir is blocked, it uses bluetooth to communicate).

Its still active on all inputs, I've restarted the player, reset it's settings and that. I tested the other inputs with the ps4 PRO and HDR still works beautifully, it works via Netflix, Amazon prime etc.
Very strange. I don't use the player very often at all but it's always outputted hdr no problem.
Thought it might amuse you all to know I just found out that I had the standard bluray in and not the uhd disc
Would explain the picture quality and lack of HDR
In my defence, I didn't realise regular bluray was also in the box, and the uhd and bluray text is very small on both

I suspect I've done the same thing a few times.

Managed to convince the wife that now might be the time to replace it (come on 4k!
) and spent the last couple of days doing my research and settling on a replacement. Quite exciting
This morning the buzzing has stopped, so the wife has vetoed the new tv
I might have to sabotage it properly now
Whilst we haven't had a re-occurrence of the annoying buzzing noise, we've noticed that the TV is now pumping out an ungodly amount of heat, to the point that most evenings we have to have the lounge window open to let in some cool air. I've managed to whisper sweet nothings in my wife's ear about the current high energy bills that would be
slashed if we replaced the plasma with an LED, so I'm on the lookout again for a new TV. I'm like Grima Wormtongue

You're literally the reason that every help desk ever has to ask you a tonne of stupid questions before they actually start to help.
