For people not interested in getting a 2017 model this might be worth a look:

My TV looks like it is on the way out and so I might be in the market for one soon.

I have a new 2017 Panasonic 4K UHD HDR TV and it's brilliant. I bought it last month from the Panasonic Store and if you want to know more details, just letting me know. :)

Cheers. The 2017 Panny's are already out then?

That's good to know, my TV should hold out for another month or so which will give me some time to get some money together for another one.

I am still on a 720p TV that I bought for the Xbox 360, I am actually looking forward to it breaking properly so I have an excuse for a nice new one.

Yeah, the new 2017 sets are available except the OLED ones and they will come in soon.

http://www.panasonic.com/uk/consumer/te ... /4KTV.html

Cheers again.

I will leave the OLED TVs to Peter Crisp.

Anyway, I've got the 50" one and it's included Freeview Play, FreeSat and most of the apps such as Amazon Video, Netflix, BBC iPlayer etc. Also, I bought the external hard drive so I can record the channels from the Freeview so basically, it's great! :datass:

Panasonic have slipped down the league tables a bit since their Plasma days.

If you're looking at flagship TVs, it's LG out in front with OLED; Sony, Samsung & Panasonic all bouncing around the 2nd, 3rd and 4th spots. From a purley gaming perspective, I'd put Samsung 2nd.

Move down to the 'budget' and mid £1000-£2000 range, Samsung are 1st and Sony 2nd. I wouldn't touch LG in this catagory.

To be honest, if you stick to those 4 brands you'd be pretty hard pressed to find an absolute shocker of a TV though.

Sony and Panasonic's new TVs, inlcuding Sony's new OLED screen, are out now (Panasonic's OLEDs are out in a few weeks).

The Sony KD-55XE9305 (which is a replacement for my TV in 2016, the XD93) has reviewed very well, though its RRP is £400 more expensive this year (£2400). The main improvements being Dolby Vision compatibility, a change in LED placement (top to bottom, instead of from left & right), and reduced input lag for gaming (1080p is the same as 2016 at around 40ms, 4K has been halved to around 25ms).

The LG OLED 55B7V is more expensive at RRP £3000 (which is their mid range OLED) & is also excellent, with just 21ms response times for gaming and improvements to HDR (though interestingly it doesn't hit the required brightness for the format that it's supposed to, coming in under the Sony and Samsung despite the older screen technology).

If you're buying Samsung, the biggest issue is build quality, which is the worst of the big 4. This is undoubtedly where the substational cost savings are coming from.

Sony, it's software related. The Google OS, while fine, is the weakest of the 4. And as I mentioned previously, the satalite - while it does work - is a dud. The EPG is completely broken in the UK. LG, Samsung and Panasonic all feature Freesat and/or Freeview Play. Sony have opted for YouView and their own Freeview EPG.

They all come with the usual array of 4K apps Amazon Video, Netflix, BBC iPlayer etc. iPlayer is in 4K (Planet Earth 2 demo) on some Panasonic TVs.

My advice would be to find a TV you like now, and then buy it around November when the price will drop by at least £500 and they'll throw in or heavily discount a sound bar along with it. Sony and Samsung were giving them away free throughout October and November in 2016.

Had you had an eye on it for a while?

I have. It's got as low as £800 at Argos. I'm very tempted at that price but am going to try and hold off and see what's around when I actually have some more 4k sources (Scorpio or when Virgin start doing PL in 4k).

I have, I was also interested in one of their 55" 2017 models, but that was a grand more. I'm sure it was better in many ways, but that's a lot of money for a few improvements.

Nice to see, I'm somewhat concerned about potential light bleed, but this seems to only be effecting a few people, perhaps they have faulty sets. Fingers crossed mine is OK.

No chance at that price  .
I'm waiting until Black Friday and then seeing what happens.

The problem is this is yet another time of TV tech transition and we're only at the start of the HDR era so I'm sure set's with amazing HDR will arrive over the next few years so it may be bast to wait and see again.

Initial thoughts:

Not noticed any screen bleeding issues.

I set my One S to 4k/HDR. Picture is very good but I cant say I noticed a massive difference, obviously its only upscaling.

I had the TV set to always use HDR but the whites looked funny so changed it to auto and it looked a lot better. Guess you should only use it with something that its intended for. Need to try it with Gears 4.

One thing it did seem to improve a lot on was Rogue One streamed from Amazon.

Will watch a bit of 4k netflix / prime tonight.

I have got mine, I love it except for an issue I'm having with the PS4 Pro and 2160p RGB. Works perfectly in YUV240, but I've got major issues with the other, not sure if it's the PS4 or the Pro?

Theres a thread on the AV Forum that is probably worth reading.

Lots of discussion on how to best set it for the Pro.

I think YUV240 is the way to go for now, perhaps a patch on TV/Pro or both will address this?

I don't know if it includes this TV, but on my XD93 Sony released a patch last year that corrected issues with SkyQ and improved the Game mode (notably the response times). Sony also released an update this month improving the Google OS. Worth having a look.

After doing more research, I actually think it's an issue with my pro, not the TV, as many people are experiencing the same issue with Samsung and LG TVs, amongst others. Perhaps I need to send my Pro off to be looked at, what a ball ache.
