Bit late, but...

KK wrote:Panasonic have slipped down the league tables a bit since their Plasma days.

If you're looking at flagship TVs, it's LG out in front with OLED; Sony, Samsung & Panasonic all bouncing around the 2nd, 3rd and 4th spots. From a purley gaming perspective, I'd put Samsung 2nd.

Move down to the 'budget' and mid £1000-£2000 range, Samsung are 1st and Sony 2nd. I wouldn't touch LG in this catagory.

As I said in the PS4 thread, a simple change to a better quality HDMI cable has rectified the issue. Thank Christ I don't have to send back my beloved new purchase or my Pro, what a relief. Now that I've said that, it will probably all go wrong again, touch wood......... :dread:

Had a look at the new Sony OLED's in Currys today.

Holy gooseberry fool it was a thing of absolute beauty. Even the Samsung, LG and Panasonic reps were bigging it up and admitting it was better than any of their current or upcoming offerings.
Don't think I can justify dropping £4,500 on a TV though.

The main problem is that while the £4,500 set may be awesome is it really that much better than the best set you can get for £1,500?
You could buy a set now and replace it in 4 years for another £1,500 set which will likely be better than the £4,500 set and still have enough left over for yet another set in 8 years.
I don't think it makes sense even if you have enough free cash for the super expensive TV's.

For competitive gamers, Sony's OLED is still behind LG again for best set of 2017 (it has higher and fluctuating input lag of between 20ms to 51ms, making it one of the highest of the year thus far).

LG is more prone to image retention though, though it can be easily gotten rid of by turning the set off.

For £3500 though I'd want as close to perfection as possible. Sony's new screen sound technology is great, but it still isn't as good as a separate sound bar/system, thus making that feature pretty redundant.

For £3500+, there's no getting away from the fact the satellite is still partially bust, when Panasonic, LG and Samsung will all give you Freesat.

I'll never buy another LG TV after my experience with their products in general so they're out of the picture before I even start considerations.

I've got a separate surround sound system that my Sky Q box and consoles are directly hooked into as well so I never really factor a TVs audio features/quality into account.
It was disappointing to see this years TVs all dropping 3D though I have to say.

My XD93 has 3D, one of the last Sony sets to include it. I borrowed someone else's glasses to try it out & I thought it was average at best. There's a fair amount of headache inducing crosstalk. Plus there's the small matter of there being very little to actually watch in 3D.

I've got a couple of 3D Blu-Rays so it'd just be nice to be able to keep on using the 3D version. They all come with a non-3D version as well at least though.

Big clearance event starts in-store at John Lewis tomorrow, with what is left of last year's models up for grabs for the final time. The headline acts being the monstrous Sony Bravia 65'' XD9305 slashed to £1,329.95, Samsung UE49KS9000 Curved to just £849 & Panasonic 40'' EX700B with Freeview Play + ALL70T Soundbar & Subwoofer, & DMP-UB400EBK Blu-Ray Player for £958. Other TVs have been reduced between £100-£300, or come with a free soundbar/4K Blu Ray Player.

This is the first wave of discounting of the year.

Oh gooseberry fool. I've been watching prices on the the KS7000 for a while. 849 is more than I wanted to spend, but that is hugely tempting.

Fake edit, just googled it, it's £800 on Richer Sounds...

I was really excited about the QLED series and then they announced the price and decided that no, I wasn't excited any more.

Prices have gone up substationally this year by about £200-£300 in many cases, if not more. Even if you wait till November, you're still looking at around £2,400 for an OLED minimum (though I think LG has one under the C7 that isn't reviewed above). Not a good year because of the weakened pound. Shops could probably do the knockdown prices last year because they'd ordered the stock prior to June.

I'm waiting for the black Friday sales (I booked the day off work just 4 days into this year  ) and I'm hoping the QLED sets can come down in price to £1200 (it's £1,689 now) and if not I can wait until they do the discounts next year as they announce the 2018 sets.
£1,200 is my personal max for a TV and I'm not really sure why but it just is :shifty: .

If go up to £2,000 for an OLED but I just couldn't justify more than that. As much as I want that Sony OLED there's no way I can justify forking over £5,000 for it. A good chunk of that cost is probably the screen speakers that I'd never use anyway since I have a surround sound system.

I'll be looking at a 55" 4K TV probably around September time to purchase. Hoping for a few price drops around the time too. Have my eye on Samsung MU8000. QLED costs more than I'd prefer to spend. OLED substantially more than I'd like to spend.

I've been waiting for OLED to come down in price for 10 strawberry floating years now  .

It's really not helping that I constantly visit Oled-info.com ( https://www.oled-info.com/ ) and they keep telling me about the billions of dollars being spent on new fabrication facilities that gets me all excited and ends up just making strawberry floating phone screens :x .

Screw you mobile revolution, you suck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't own a strawberry floating mobile phone how does spending $20B in the last 3 years on new phone screen fab facilities help me get a nice new OLED TV?

That is odd even by Crispy's standards!

Because I'm a grumpy strawberry floater who doesn't like talking to people or the thought that work can get in contact with me wherever I am.
I do have 5 different tablets and 4 Kindles though :shifty: .
I also don't quite understand why anyone would pay the frankly ludicrous prices mobiles cost just to have constant access to the internet. I pay for net access at home and it's cheap as chips why would I spend shitloads on a mobile unit just so I can google some random gooseberry fool on the train?
I don't understand :?: .

The last phone I owned was a samsung clamshell that was 2g (I think) thing that got de-activated as I hadn't used it in a year.
