Probably a bit late now, but...

DON'T UPDATE YOUR SAMSUNG TV (UK AND EUROPE)

Owners of the following 2017 televisions, but possibly not limited to, are reporting a number of issues since updating their television with the latest firmware update.

    UE50MU6100K
    UE49MU7070
    MU6409
These models either won't change channel or, worse, won't display anything after the splash screen upon powering on. Samsung customer service told their forum members on Tuesday 22nd August it didn't have a clue when a fix would go out to customers but that Samsung were aware of the issue, and that the fix was currently undergoing internal testing. However this special firmware would need to be installed by an approved Samsung engineer.

Was it samsung who also released an update that screwed with screen response times?

I dont know how this happens at such a large conpany. It's as if they have no change/release management process.

I know Sony messed with the response times for gaming earlier this year, but rectified it after about 2 months.

LG, Samsung and Sony have now all had issues with their top end TVs. So important to have that extended warranty these days.

I think the bosses have more to worry about at the moment.

Anyone got or have experience of the Samsung one connect box? Just looking and it seems pretty neat, would be great to have the tv central and then all of the sky box, consoles etc off to one side in a stacked unit.

It does seem to be the sensible way to go with the actual screens becoming pretty much paper thin.
I don't think we're all that far away from the boxes being sold separately and just the screen itself being sold as I have a feeling 4K will stick around for quite a while now.

Argos have got a whopper of a deal on this weekend. The LG OLED 55B7V 55'' 4K with HDR TV is down from £2249 to £1799.10 when you enter code TVSAVE. That's £450 off for one of the very best TVs of 2017.

Are there any good deals on a regular old 1080p TV in either 32" or 40" at the moment?

Has anyone ever used PowerDirect before?

I'm looking at getting the Panasonic TX-75EX750B and it's £300 cheaper with them than Curry's and John Lewis. All 3 stores give a 5 year warranty.

https://www.powerdirect.co.uk/catalog/p ... freeviewhd

I can get £359 off from co-op but they only supply the 1 year warranty

I've now got my eye on this TV:

https://www.johnlewis.com/sony-bravia-4 ... k/p3215642

I'm looking for a TV that is less than 50 inches big. I don't mind if it is or isn't 4K. The budget is less than £600.

Nuts you can get a tv like that for so little money. My 40 inch 1080p Samsung was over a grand when i got it.

It is a good deal, but it is (and has been for a little while) available elsewhere for £1999, so its really £200 off.

Looking good for being able to pick this TV up at the under £1500 last years model went down to at some point though. I will be tempted once it reaches that kind of price.

Last night my 9-year old Sony LCD TV (model: KDL40V3000) went a bit haywire all of a sudden. The picture colours inverted and washed out to a degree - and this applied on all TV feeds and even without a feed input.

I tried switching it off, which did seem to fix it for about 10 seconds before it messed up again. I also did a factory reset (apparently while holding the up button and press the power button) though that didn't seem to do anything.

Is my TV dead? :-(

Looks like Freesat 4K is coming in 2018, with some features borrowed from SkyQ:

DigitalTVEurope wrote:Freesat Freesat is seeking manufacturing partners to develop a “new range of innovative set-top boxes” that will include Ultra HD support and multiscreen streaming.

The free-to-air UK satellite operator said it is seeking proposals for its next generation consumer product and aims to announce manufacturing partners in the autumn, with a view to bringing the set-top box to market “as soon as possible”.

The platform provider said that the new devices should be ultra high definition-ready for encrypted broadcast and IP; should offer “fast channel change”; and support HBBTV 2.0.1 applications.

Other key features should include:

- in-home multiscreen streaming to allow users to watch TV across multiple set-top-boxes in the home

- additional tuners to help customers plan their recordings and avoid programme clashes.

“We’re thrilled to announce plans for Freesat’s next generation product,” said Freesat managing director, Alistair Thom.

“The requirements for our set-top box have been developed with the customer in mind and our aim is to continue to bring UK audiences the best subscription free TV service, and a fantastic alternative to pay TV.”

The product requirements will be based on an open technical specification set by the Free TV Alliance, which is a collaboration between four major European digital satellite television broadcasters: Fransat (France), HD Plus (Germany), Tivusat (Italy) and Freesat (UK).

Freesat said its request for proposals signals the Free TV Alliance’s ongoing commitment to create “common standards for free-to-view satellite TV services and technologies across Europe for the benefit of viewers, manufacturers and broadcasters.”

Went to Currys to look at TVs and a 65 inch screen really isn't big enough. 75 or bust

Is this a good deal?

Toshiba 49U6763DB LED 4K Ultra HD Smart TV, 49" with Built-In Wi-Fi, Freeview HD & Freeview Play, Black @ John Lewis

Seems kinda perfect for me. I'm looking for a cheap-ish large TV to watch F1/football and play Xbox on, preferably with 4K for the coming years.

Yep, we've got one. Had it for almost 3 yrs now.

Our TV is a curved 65" 4k which sits on a 'stand' (actually an Ikea 6-compartment, 180cm wide cabinet I guess you'd describe it as), as opposed to being wall mounted. The One Connect is directly behind the tv on top of the cabinet and as you say has all the various inputs going into it. A neat idea with the idea being that as technologies evolve, you just replace the One Connect (which I think is around £300/400). That's a hell of a lot better than replacing a tv that cost us over £3k when bought new (worse "I splurged loadsamoney on a tv post ever!").

If you are looking to wall mount, I can see the One Connect being an excellent way of hiding the multitude of wires into your tv.
