Oh yeah, I mean considering its age mine is decent too. Much better picture than most LED TVs I see, my partner's folks just picked up a cheap one and the picture is absolutely awful.

My old Samsung is still great, probably the same sort of age and cost a grand at the time.

The gooseberry fool people will buy now purely on screen size :dread:

"OH I GOT A 50" TV FOR £350!!"

but it's shite :|

My Sony 24-inch screen is ace. It's 1080p and has a range of connections; 2 x HDMI, 2 x Scart, S-VHS and component. It is even made quite nice, with a metal stand and deece plastic. The picture can be adjusted with great on-screen tools. It's over six years old now but still works really well.

Yet some folk are all "LOL! I got a TechVision 47" for £280! Much bigger screen than that old gooseberry fool and it's got 2 HDMIs and YouTube!" :simper: .

I was having that exact conversation with someone at work the other day, I mentioned I had my eye on the Panny EZ952 which is currently £1799 (waiting for sub-£1500) and they were like 'what size is it?'. I replied that it was a 55" TV and they said 'you can get better than that, my mate bought a 65" telly and it only cost him a grand'. :fp:

I don't see 8K gaining any traction at all in the next 5 years.
UHD blue ray will just be becoming the norm and prices will come down to normal blue ray prices and no console will be 8K capable even when we get to the next gen console refreshes in 5 to 7 years time. Maybe some PC stuff will be 8K but even then you'll need a beefy bit of kit even in 5 years.

Further to this I'm thinking I should have bought a 55" screen instead. My wife has barely mentioned the 49" screen being too big which means I probably could have got away with a bigger TV.

 My wife was actually open to 55" and I backed away. Anything that involves her asking for extra inches makes me nervous. Plus, our living room is just the wrong shape for any larger a screen.

Trust me, you get used to any screen size. I still wish I could have justified the double cost of going to a 75" as we're completely used to the 65 now.

You certainly do. After I got my flat I had a 14" CRT as my main TV for about four years... once you've been watching a programme for about five minutes you don't really notice the screen size.

Of course, nowdays I have a GIANT 26" FLAT SCREEN LCD (720p) TV in my living room 8-) .

Getting used to something doesn't mean it's not still far too big for my living room.
